Everyone plays golf for one reason or another. What is it about golf that you really enjoy? Time spent with friends? Time away from everything else in life? The challenge? Or whatever else draws you to the game.

For me it's the challenge of the game. The ability to work hard and improve, and to have those great rounds where everything is just clicking. And to even have those rounds that bring me back down to earth. I like playing alone a lot of the time just because I find it relaxing and peaceful. But every couple rounds I like going with a friend.

The challenge.  It feels like a race against time.  I think I've already surpassed my physical peak, so trying to still improve becomes a more and more difficult proposition.  I don't think I can physically swing the golf club 130+ mph like I could in my 20s even if I tried.  Doesn't mean I can't hit it just as far with better mechanics, though.  Breaking 70 is my current goal.  Teaching others how to do it is my second.

The euphoria associated with a killer drive, a perfect pro quality approach shot,a long putt for birdie or par save, hell just a GIR gets my blood going.

Yea GIR is one of my favorite stats to hit and keep track of. As time goes on my percentage keeps improving. I keep working at getting better and want to break into the 70's this year. Thats my goal...

Now, it's time spent with friends and getting away from all the "stuff" in my real life.  When I first started golfing it was more about the challange, but as I have grown older, it's more about the bonding.

Sometimes yes, and sometimes it is the cause...

Seriously, for me, it is to get away from reality and the pressure of work.  I can forget about everything when I am playing golf and just enjoy the beauty and serenity of the course.  Also, I too like the challenge of knowing that I can can always do better.

But the number one reason is peace and quiet.  That is why I like to go out as a single and get paired up with strangers so I can forget about work for awhile....  But once in a blue moon, I will play a round with my buddies.

Being outside for 4+ hours.  Hanging with my buds, talking smack, and competing against them.  Hitting the perfect shot, especially under challenging conditions.  Keeping it together for 9 or 18 holes.  Feeling the pressure, focusing, and delivering results.

I'd say being with friends/getting out first.  Then challenge of the game.

Me too - I find I can concentrate more on my game when playing alone.     Overall, just enjoy being outdoors & enjoying the scenery of a beautiful golf course.    Of course, catching a 3 wood on the screws is like landing a 5# bass on topwater ... it's a memorable experience & brings us back, hoping for the same (albeit rare) outcome.

I dunno, I just love it. Does there have to be a reason?

Steve

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.
