Expert Picks: HSBC Champions
Expert Fantasy selections Projected champion
Sean Martin Martin Kaymer, Ryan Moore
Keegan Bradley, Sergio Garcia
Keegan Bradley KBradley63.jpg
He's finished no worse than 16th in his past four TOUR starts and has a good record in these World Golf Championships.
Ryan Smithson Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy
Ryan Moore, Jason Dufner
Rory McIlroy McIlroy63.jpg
Probably a dumb move to bench Phil, Keegan, but I am saving them. Look for Moore to stay hot on this type of course.
John Swantek Keegan Bradley, Sergio Garcia
Rory McIlroy, Ian Poulter
Ian Poulter Poulter63.jpg
Five of his 15 career worldwide wins have come in Asia and he owns a strong record at this event as the defending champion.
Bryan Mullen Brandt Snedeker, Jimmy Walker
Rickie Fowler, Sergio Garcia
Sergio Garcia Garcia63.jpg
Garcia, who's game appears to be in order, played well last week at the CIMB Classic, finishing T11 after opening with a 66.
Anne Detlefsen Jordan Spieth, Jason Dufner
Luke Donald, Keegan Bradley
Keegan Bradley KBradley63.jpg
Can't ignore Bradley's strong record at World Golf Championships.
Chris Dunham Keegan Bradley, Phil Mickelson
Jordan Spieth, Lee Westwood
Jordan Spieth Spieth63.jpg
No one can turn their game around faster than Phil but give me Spieth who finished 2013  with five top 20s (three were top 5s).
Mike McAllister Keegan Bradley, Martin Kaymer
Hideki Matsuyama, Ryan Moore
Martin Kaymer Kaymer63.jpg
In four previous HSBC Champions appearances, Kaymer has three top-10s, including a win in 2011.
Helen Ross Keegan Bradley, Henrik Stenson
Sergio Garcia, Graeme McDowell
Keegan Bradley KBradley63.jpg
He didn't have a good weekend at CIMB but he plays well in big events and the caliber of this field should get his juices flowing.
Rob Bolton Keegan Bradley, Rory McIlroy
Phil Mickelson, Justin Rose
Keegan Bradley KBradley63.jpg
The goal here is to get on the bandwagon before McIlroy makes it rain again. His track record at Sheshan International is sterling.
John Schwarb Keegan Bradley, Sergio Garcia
Justin Rose, Martin Kaymer
Keegan Bradley KBradley63.jpg
Picked him to win last week, a brilliant call until the weekend. The game's there, just need four good rounds to end the drought.
D.J. Piehowski Keegan Bradley, Henrik Stenson
Grahan DeLaet, Sergio Garcia
Keegan Bradley KBradley63.jpg
It stung to go winless last season and he's working hard to pick off an early W. Here's a great chance after a nice week in Malaysia.
Bill Cooney Keegan Bradley, Justin Rose
Martin Kaymer, Graham DeLaet
Graham DeLaet DeLaet63.jpg
Great ball-striker with pedestrian ball-striking stats during T7 at CIMB. Will only improve this week.
Amanda Balionis Henrik Stenson, Jason Dufner
Keegan Bradley, Sergio Garcia
Henrik Stenson Stenson63.jpg
A final round 65 at the BMW Masters shows that the recent FedExCup champ is far from being done in 2013.
Brian Wacker Jordan Spieth, Ian Poulter
Rickie Fowler, Sergio Garcia
Ian Poulter Poulter63.jpg
For starters, he won last year. For another, he tends to play well in WGC events. Expect the upward trend to continue.

Holy crap what a fun tournament to watch tonight. Excited to see Rory back in top form! Lots of big names on the leaderboard.

Would love to see Rory get it going and have a good year.

Me too. When he's on he is otherworldly good.

Dustin J. shoots 63 on 2nd day, goes to -12.  Rory    shoots par and falls back.  Bubba, Boo and Rors all at -7, the nearest to Johnson.

Rory looked good through the front 9, but played some bad shots on the back9.

As a Brit, I'd love to see him have a couple of storming rounds and win the tourney!

I watched a few holes right around the middle of Ror's round. Real grab bag of shots. Some great, some not so great. Missed some very doable birdie puts. Game is better than anything he got going last year so hopeful he's starting to climb out of that hole. Confidence seems a lot better but I still think he's a little shaky in that department. DJ built a helluva lead with that 63.

DJ has been highly backed over here in the UK and his play today was excellent.  He's got a huge lead and with the ammunition he has at his disposal on a Par 72 format that rewards Total Driving, he's going to be very difficult to stop now.

Watched the middle of the round (middle of Rory's play anyway) last night, quit once I started nodding off though.

You could just see the change in Rory's game and attitude as he worked through the turn.  heartbreaking.

DJ didn't get much air time for some reason.....I'm sure that'll change now.  Great run.

Definitely much better than anything he did this year!

Apparently he's changed his Driver and his Ball. When I saw the driver, it's still the Nike Covert Tour Driver from what I could see, so maybe he's just changed the loft? Not sure what exactly they've done with the ball either.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Maybe he painted a Titleist with some covert-red enamel paint? Wonder what ball he's using, Nike can't be happy if he's not endorsing their flagship items. Although I suppose they'd rather have Rory winning with a Sumo driver and a Nike SFT ball than losing with a Covert and a 20XI.

Geat leaderboard, although DJ is going to come back to the field a bit to make it interesting.

Nike has finished the Covert 2, which looks pretty similar. It's possible Rory has a proto.

See post #15

Nike Covert Tour 2.0, it's not listed as a proto though.
