I read a lot of posts in which people try to explain how difficult it is to become a touring pro, let alone have any success.

I thought this article is a great example.

It’d be hard to play smart when you need 64 get in.

Major props to the old villain Patrick Reed for Monday qualifying his way to the tour and eventually getting himself that green jacket.

Eh, probably shouldn't follow up a 27 with a 38.

The title is misleading, he was in a play-off so he didn't get in because he lost the playoff. Shooting a 27 doesn't matter if you can't follow the other 9 up with anything good.

It's tough of course.

That's part of the fun though. 😎

I think the point is, he shot a 65 and that only got him to a playoff. But yes as for the title, it doesn’t matter what anyone shoots on 9 holes if they do a mediocre job on the other half. But again..he shot a friggin 65 and only made a playoff.

True, I wonder how hard the course was playing that day though.

It also kind of makes sense, everyone is competing for presumably six spots. Of course the guys that make it are going to be shooting those scores.

I read in one of the comments that Brooks Koepka said playing on the European tour is a better path than grinding in Monday Q's.

This.  10 out of 77 entrants shot 65 or better.  So the 27 was a nice accomplishment, but the technical term for a course like this is joke.  Makes you wonder what the big boys would have done to a course like this.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

7600 yards.  76.2 / 138  from the tips.  I’m guessing that it wasn’t playing all that easy!

A 65 is a -13.7 differential!

It’s also worth noting that the guys shooting 65 and not making it into the field are Monday qualifying because they’re not good enough to have exempt status yet...

I played a course in Orlando recently, played my ass off and shot even par. I'm not sure I can find 7 shots to shave off that score. Maybe two. And it was not 7600 yards. It's amazing how good those guys are. I always chuckle listening to the young guys at our club. They really have no idea. If your not shooting in the 60's every time out......

?

−9.2, or -8.8 if you apply the 96% to the individual rounds instead of the average of the 10 best.

    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
