Oh my gosh, I tested a horrible golf ball today.

I'm getting to the age where I have trouble following white and yellow balls in the air, and my golf course has a lot of sandy areas where white balls disappear.

I've been searching for a pink or orange ball. Overall the best ball I've found is the Bridgestone B330 RXS, but it's available only in white (so far). I also like the Titleist NXT Tour, but its available only in white and yellow. Today I played three holes with the pink Volvik Vivid and they were HORRIBLE. I lost 25 yards off the driver and a full club on the irons. Off the putter face they felt like marshmallows.

Any recommendations for pink or orange balls (pink preferred)? I don't care what my golf buddies think. If they ever beat me, then they can make fun of my balls.

So far the closest I've found is the Callaway Supersoft in pink, but it's still a bit too soft.

I'm a 6-handicap and my average drive is around 235 with a 10.5 degree driver with an R shaft.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Definitely not orange.   You would think that orange would be easy to find..NOT.    The guys I play with don't like me playing with an orange ball because it takes forever to find even in the summer with no leaves.   Forget about using one in the fall.    The yellow, for me, are the easiest to find.

Funny you say that, just this past weekend, I saw an orange ball someone had lost maybe 7-8 yards off the green.  The rough was pretty thick on this course but still, surprising that someone couldn't find it that close to the green.  Or maybe they just left it...

FWIW, my wife plays fluorescent orange Volvik balls and they are pretty easy to find. It is harder in the fall with orange leaves though.

If too soft, maybe go up a step to the Superhot 55 or Hex Soft. I have Superhots in colors. Got on eBay. I use Spersoft myself (slow swing speed; great distance). Best, -Marv

I did try the Callaway Chrome Soft -- white with black or pink hexagons -- but they didn't help much. Too me, white and yellow look the same in the air, and on the ground I can't tell the difference until I'm a few feet away, so when they get into the sandy areas off the fairway that doesn't help much. I really liked the new Titleist AVX, but again, only white and yellow.

I'm going to stick with Callaway SuperSoft pink until I find something better. I did buy a new sleeve of pink Volvik Vibe off eBay for which the description sounds about right (like the Bridgestone 330 RXS), but I've heard it's been discontinued. And the Volvik Vivid is out of the question based on Monday's experience.

I wore vermilion glasses when I shot trap.  The red tint and green background really made the orange targets stand out.  I'd bet there is a similar combination in golf.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just bought the Bridgestone e12 soft in RED and had no trouble today (first time using a colored ball). I too have trouble finding the ball in the air now.

If you are, in general, a cheerful-in-all-weathers sort of person, and put it around that you enjoy playing golf...you will be given more golf balls than you know what to do with.  That results in a random quality, to golf ball selection, that you couldn't achieve otherwise.  Just today I was given, out of the blue, a dozen "Tour Soft" golf balls.  They appear round enough, and about the right size, so we will see how it goes.  If I should ever be asked "How did those golf balls work out for you?"  I am prepared to answer  "Just fine...thank you."  That is enough, in my experience, to ensure that more free golf balls are on the way.

As I age, I'm having the same issues. Forget about following the flight of a white ball. This time of year, the hot pink seems to be the best. Wilson 50 Elite in Pink.

I fly radio controlled airplanes.   I wanted an airplane when way up in the air it would be noticeable.   Most colors at a distance appear black.   One of my planes was (crash) yellow.   it is distinctly different from a red or a blue in the air and much easier to see.

The white balls on a partly cloudy day to me, are difficult to see at a distance.   I'm eager to try the Snell balls in their yellow.
