This course plays pretty easy when there's a marine layer and no wind. In '92, they were tearing Pebble up until Sunday and the sun/wind came around. In '00, they scored lowest in round 1 when it was foggy. The next 3 rounds, only Tiger went low. In 2010, it was basically sunny every day so it played tough.

Want Pebble to play tough? Ask for sunshine.

Seems like a sunny day would make it especially tough for the late groups, because the poa will sprout more.

True. I remember being there in 2010 and the weather was gorgeous every day but Friday. Guys were having problems with the poa and the greens. Greens look much better this year. Wish I were there this year.

Very early yet but great leaderboard thus far. Nothing but big names under par and on the first page with the exception of perhaps Piercy.

So I noticed the US Open starts at 2:09 pm today.. Anyone else excited?!

5:09pm eastern time, man. 😄

Ha. At least he's in the afternoon shift. Sometimes I think in the morning slot Tiger comes out too conservative and then shoots E or something, and the lead after day 1 is -7 or -6 or something.

Maybe if he goes off in the afternoon he'll see that the course is somewhat "gettable" (if the scoring continues), and put up a better number.

But whatever. Everything the rest of this year is gravy for TW, IMO. He got a major win already, proved he is fully back, etc. I'm not saying an MC won't cause concerns, but a T20 is fine, too.

Is Fowler sporting a mullet under that Puma hat? Would he be the first US Open winner with a mullet? :-P

I believe Dufner has one as well. I don't know if it's a charity thing or a new style I don't know about haha.

I think Pavin was rocking one in 95. 😎

When I was there in 2010 during the first round, I don't think anyone ever even got to -3. I kept looking at the leaderboard and guys were -1 and -2 most of the day. I think Micheel and de Jonge were leading at like -1 or -2 after the first round. Funny thing it wasn't even that breezy. Just sunny and chilly.

That was ugly. You can't take anything for granted at an Open.

What Kevin’s Kisner did at 18 was uglier.

If you could break a piece of gum, Phil would have done it. Steam coming out of his ears.
