I’m really pulling for Lowry. To win the Open in Ireland is huge for an Irishman. Bank of Ireland must be happy with the logo placement too!

Tiger usually makes things more interesting, but the problem today is not Europeans. It's the lack of suspense since Lowry has been leading by 5-6 shots all day.

Not sure which is worse, just watching commercials, or watching the golf on a small square in the upper-left hand corner while the rest of the screen is devoted to the bloke from Oz trying to sell me auto insurance from his imaginary insurance university.

I used to like the “playing through” commercials format. But more and more I find myself just fast forwarding through them just like regular commercials. If something significant happens, they’ll probably show it again in a minute.

Oh well, Tommy playing for 2nd place on his own now. Fair play to Lowry, it's been a great performance by him.

This final round was never edge-of-the-seat stuff, but still very entertaining to watch.

Question for those from Ireland or the UK...or frankly anyone from Europe with more context than me.

Shouldn’t N Irish fans generally be more supportive of Brit players (Fleetwood, etc.) than Lowry? I’ve been a bit surprised this weekend by how overwhelming the crowd is in favor of Lowry. Granted, I’m sure there are plenty of Irish (Republic of Ireland) fans in attendance but just curious.

If they're watching it on the telly in a pub on the Shankill Road, maybe.

What to say? Northern Ireland, it's all a bit confusing.

People who are Northern Irish yet Irish, Northern Irish yet British, and people who are Northern Irish, yet Irish and British.

It's a minefield. All I can say, having visited there many times (family in Belfast), is people seem far more chilled out about it all than was the case 25 years ago.*

*just an English person's opinion looking at Northern Ireland. Only an Northern Irish person can answer your question properly, assuming there even is a definitive answer...

Well technically NI isn’t Britain anymore. I think Ireland and NI are a lot closer now than they were in the past. Especially given the fact there aren’t many Irish golfers.

"Britain" is the island of Great Britain - England, Scotland, and Wales.

The United Kingdom is the unified nation comprised of 4 countries: England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland has its own devolved government (currently suspended) and remains part of the United Kingdom.

What to do about the free movement of persons across the Irish border, assuming the UK leaves the EU, is what has tied the Brexit situation in knots, as Northern Ireland is part of the UK, not an independent country, nor is it unified with the Republic of Ireland. This situation may change in the next few years.

I've *heard* that it's only a small pocket of NI that sides with England and that the rest of the country hates them.

Umm, is Fleetwood wearing the same shirt Finau had on yesterday? Maybe he picked it up from his laundry pile?

Yes. I hope not.

Tommy Fleetwood, Tony Finau and Jason Day all wore the Nike polo inspired by an ancient Irish legend

Fleetwood wore that shirt Friday too. Why would you wear that garbage twice?

No, no, no. That was white on black. Today’s black on white.

”Toile,” my fashion consultant tells me.

Hopefully the Open keeps coming back to Northern Ireland. Portrush looked awesome, and Royal County Downs seems great too.

This is hard to watch without Tiger...dull dull dull euro trash types

Don't watch when the wind blows then as you are unlikely to see any Americans in contention to win.
