Is anyone able to confirm the rules pertaining to footwear; specifically concerning my recent completion of a round, holes 17/18, with just one shoe? I did at least finish with two shoes about my person, however was only wearing one of them...

I don’t think it’s a rules violation, but it is a story you will get to tell for a long time!😀

No rules say you need to be wearing shoes.

I had a pair which the heel came off during my round.

Really pissed me off as they were a really nice Nike "TW" dress shoes which I had only worn a few times.

A guy with whom I played high school golf played barefoot most rounds.  That is, until coach made him wear shoes in tournaments haha.

Course rules may require footwear at all times, but golf rules do not.

I don't think there are any usga rules for shoes. Seen too many pga folks take one, or both shoes/socks off for shots in/near water hazards

I do know of a few local area courses that don't allow bare feet, or spikeless sandals. Sandals are ok if golf specific with spikes.

It's a health/safety issue for them, due to the various chemicals used to treat the turf

I remember this shoe from several years ago being ruled illegal for use by the USGA.  But as far as wearing shoes or not...only course/club rules that I am aware of.

Strange. I wonder how sandals with spikes would protect the feet from chemicals better than spikeless sandals?

I think it might also be a safety issue, from the standpoint of a player stepping on something that cuts or punctures his foot.

I have heard of some courses requiring people to wear closed shoes out of risk management. Wearing shoes supposedly protects people from fertilizer burns or absorption of chemicals if the foot has a cut.

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
