I've never been accused of being serious. But I do notice certain nuanced glances and rolling of eyes when I mention I play golf.  Then I go on to say that I play polo and croquet.  End of date.

Sadly, I have as well. I have grown tired of the conversation with non-golfers trying to answer the question of golf being "essential" during this time. 

I have found, despite their knowledge of me personally being limited to a few things I am able to do because of a medical condition, they would rather chastise us all. The folks I have had conversations with don't want to hear that it provides mental clarity, exercise and a way to deal with PTS. Nor are they interested in the implemented safeguards most courses have taken. They still think we are all out there grab assing, yucking it up, high-fiving, chugging beers and bourbon and disregarding any semblance of social distancing. Therefore, I have decided to abstain from telling others I play.

Just tell them your regular caddie has tested negative, the Claret jug you sip from is disinfected and your Miura golf clubs are safe in your locker.

That doesn't mean they're right.

Golf is played by people of all colors, genders, age levels, and income levels.

It's not an "elitist" sport. There are elitist places within the sport, but the game itself is not elitist at all.

It used to be, but hell, all recreation used to be, because all recreation used to require both the free time and the expendable money.

Well I am thankful to be living in AZ right now.  Our Governor seems to understand that some non essential activities are necessary (is that contradictory?) to the well being of the population.  I have my differences with our Governor at times, but have to say he has done a good job with the shutdown.

Situation here is some courses have shut down voluntary rather than adopt the modified rules, but most are open for play, both public and private.

Expensive???....I live in one of the most expensive cities in North America for real estate....I played 100 times last year....I think I spent under $2500 by using 2 for 1 coupons or twilight and these are not garbage courses....yes....many courses have full summer rack rate of $75-$110....and with e-commerce used club retailers, Craiglist, Ebay, etc....it's pretty easy to find quality used equipment nowadays....my entire bag is about $600...with many quality sticks that perform.

Golf doesn't necessarily need to be expensive......a ski lift ticket at the Whistler ticket window is now approx $200...never heard many say skiing is elitist. 

Exclusionary???....of the 5 top private clubs here....as long as I bring my $50-90K check for the initiation....they'll accept my membership application (with my sponsorship). 

2) Do as you wish...but I think you should find other women to start dating...just sayin.😁...or start dating Korean women......they LUV golf....but you better have deep pockets though.🤣

We just traveled Alabama and Mississippi, and there was very little evidence of social responsibility.

WalMart seems to be doing a good job, via their employees, but it has not transferred to their customers.

Not sure if this solves the problem.  One of the responses on the Instagram page addresses this.  I liken the virus to fresh/wet red paint that never dries.  So you leave the house to play golf going out the back door that your young son, who is a secret carrier, used just before you.  You smear that "wet red paint" all over your steering wheel on your drive to the course.  Momentarily it's all over your equipment and golf ball.  You have a seven footer on the first hole for birdie and can it.  Not only is that "paint" all over the bottom of the hole (or noodle, or this device) but is on your putting line for the guy in the next foursome to putt through.  And on and on and on...    I hope this is just my overthinking of this and not actually the case.

First, the "paint" can dry, and second, I think you're drastically over-estimating the "density" of that paint. It's more like a few flakes of pepper.

I have to say, I have never actually heard people consider golf elitist.  Maybe it was at one point.  But the cost of golfing is fairly reasonable compared to most hobbies in today’s world.  
  I don’t get a reaction either way from people when I tell them I golf.  Most people don’t care.

County courses $32 to walk $36 with reservations to walk. Average round 4-4.5 hours. That is roughly $8 an hour. That isn’t exactly elitist money. 
 

You do need to live in the county and purchase a green fee card, it is good for 3 years. Still not elitist.

Golf courses are closed in Washington state.  Ugggh!  I just listened to an interview with Governor Inslee on KJR Sports radio.  They really grilled him on when he would open up golf courses. Turns out he is a golfer himself but his wife usually beats him.  His Father-in-Law is a former club pro. But Inslee usually beats his wife on the basketball court when playing HORSE.  You can tell he understands our angst.  I'm betting courses will be open between May 5 and May 18.  With numerous restrictions, of course.  Time for me to wash my clubs and sharpen the grooves of my wedges...
