Wonderful.  My wife and I have each had potential exposures, and tested negative.  Even though the potential contact in each case was pretty limited, and  we felt confident that we didn't have it, it was a relief to get the test results.

This was my 3rd or 4th time testing, but it was my least anxious one even though it was likely my closest encounter. Not sure why, just felt confident.

I would say I'm shocked, but this shit surprises me less and less as I age, at how many people are saying "I won't get the vaccine when it's my time."

I mean, cool, that bumps me up in line, but not cool, because it will mean a slower re-opening, more deaths, more illnesses, more hospitalizations…

Stop being stupid, people.

I'm with you, brother. I too find it interesting.

I'd take the vaccine this morning.

My guess is there's a combination of folks.

  • There are those who think any medication is bad.
  • There are probably those who think this was rushed through, so there's going to be danger.
  • There are probably some who've had reactions to other medications and are nervous about this one.
  • Then there are probably those who are just plain "I ain't gunna do it." types.

You know, if you want your freedoms back... the freedom of dining out, the freedom of drinking in a bar, the freedom of shaking someone's hand, the freedom of hugging, the freedom of life a lot like it used to be then you need to just take the damn shot.

Under the circumstances, I probably will get the shot when the time comes, but I'm not going to cut in line to get it either.

Obviously the vaccine was fast-tracked, so I'm not sure why everyone is so confident that it won't have any serious side effects. We have a lot of faith in our medical community, but history shows that some of their creations have been very problematic.

My mother is still with us, so getting the shot isn't really optional, but I'd have a hard time blaming anyone for being nervous about it.

Good point. I figure by the time I am vaccinated there will have been many before me plus the trials before the vaccine was even released. That will give me some idea of the complications if there are any.  It's like our golf swings, none of them will ever be perfect.

The most commonly reported side effect from the vaccine is injection site reaction. Such reactions can cause some pain and other symptoms around...

They have been pretty mild. That isn't to say there are not people who might have an issue with some unknown health issue. I am going to just assume that this is just like any other medicine. Do the benefits outweigh the possible cons. For someone healthy like me, never having issues with vaccines or other medications in the past, I am not going to worry to much.

I'm with you. I've never had a reaction to any medication or vaccination I've ever had, so I figure I'm good to go and I'll take the shots as soon as my name comes up.

One question, do you think the fact that the UK has been using it for a little while at least will help quell people's anxiety?

I have the same understanding.  I believe I've heard of three people who had severe allergic-type reactions, similar to the most severe reactions to the flu vaccine.  Two of those three had history common to the severe allergic reactions, the other did not.  I've never had a significant reaction to a flu vaccine, so the COVID vaccine doesn't "scare" me significantly.  I'll be getting it when my turn rolls around.

I know a fella who refuses to get a flu vaccine, because he once got it and came down with a bad cold not long after.  I'm guessing he won't take the COVID vaccine either, but I'm not going to argue with him.  I fail to understand the fears most people have, I fail to understand the mistrust of science.  I DO understand concerns about the speed of the development, evaluation, and approval of the vaccines.

There has been 3, I think, more severe allergic reactions that were treated quickly. But you have to expect a spectrum of reactions. The moderna vaccine supposably has less allergens. I hope people take it but I know far too many already that said they won’t take anything (and each seem to have a different reason too).

My husband was among the 400 frontline healthcare workers at his hospital to get the vaccine yesterday. So far, no reported side effects/allergic reactions yet.

The vaccine is based on mRNA vaccines that have been in the works for just over a decade. mRNA vaccines aren't even an attenuated version of the virus, like many other vaccines.

Wouldn’t that be great!!!
He hasn’t golfed in months and his ski season is canceled because of his work obligation. I am not even living at home right now because he worries about putting me at risk.  I cannot wait for him to have his life back.
