It helps to quote a bit:

Lifesaving COVID-19 vaccines are allowing us to feel optimistic again, after more than a year of anxiety and tragedy. But vaccines are only one side of the coin – we also need treatments that can prevent severe disease after someone has been infected. In the past year, there has been significant progress in developing effective antibody-based therapies, and three drugs are currently available through emergency use authorization (EUA) by the Food and Drug Administration.

I saw someone posted on twitter (it must be true!) that even the bottom 10 states are now 55%+ for at least one shot.   Those numbers seem quite a bit better than they have been.

Edit:  Too good to be true.   Looks like what I saw was off by up to 10 percentage points.  My home state is 51%, not the 61% I saw.

It is not always good to be 1st.  The part that really bothers me is all the people traveling to FL then back home to other states to help spread it.  The last place I would want to be is on an airplane leaving FL.

In all fairness many travel here and bring it with them too. The whole negative test at maximum 72hrs old is a joke and hardly enforced anyway. Thousands are coming here day in day out. Nobody is forcing these people to come here. But I certainly see a total mess of protocols here. Where I live most people are still wearing masks indoors. But travel a half hour and hardly anyone is. Schools are taking a beating here for sure.

It’s a small point. Lol. It’s not like Floridians are all doing their part and a bunch of tourists come and f**** it all up. Live School starting sure as hell hasn’t helped either. That’s a real mess.

In Michigan our schools  are preparing to open and there is s lot of arguments on masks here as well.  Our numbers are up, @ 2,000 per day, but I suspect we will see more.  Very few in my area are wearing mask in stores, etc.  I believe 50% is the current vaccination rate here so there is a lot of people at risk. Only question I have is when/if the number of daily cases go parabolic. My guess is they will.

Two weeks into school a local K-8 had to close for a week due to too many positive students.

More and more now kids are being hospitalized and ending up in ICU now.

So... this thing that its safe for kids, the virus says not any more. The logic failure is assuming that the virus would not mutate to infect kids. Yea....

2 of the 20 schools in my district are all virtual because their numbers are high enough to send everyone home.   Of the 19 people in my daughters class, they were down a third...yet the dashboard that the school system uses to report on numbers undercounts the people who are mandated quarantined, or had a close contact.

The feeling is that they are under-reporting because they are under pressure to not go virtual.  So it's pretty bad.   SC has missed being in the top ten for Covid among states, but we just hit the highest per capita numbers in the US.

The anti-mask stuff, forcing to "get back to normal" is going to kill people.   We had wackos who sent their kids to the last school board meeting saying that they were thinking of killing themselves because they have to wear a mask.  Ugh.  Kids are going to die/get really sick and I'm not going to be shy telling these people that the school boards and state government have blood on their hands.

And he NEIGHbor down the street go it.   The family is anti-vax, so they are taking Ivermectin, although at least it's the human version.   Still hope they crap their pants all day from it.

It’s a tough one. Is there even a vaccine for kids yet? It’s been sketchy right?

We, as Americans, are mostly without patience.  We of the short attention spans.  Etc.  During WWII (6 years) Americans put up with a lot to help out in wartime.  Not now.  18 months and we wimp out.  Wah, wah... I don't wanna wear my mask, I don't wanna get vaccinated, I don't wanna social distance.  I.  I.  I.  I...

Mine are 10 and probably won't be anything for a couple more months at the earliest.   We plan on getting the boosters for ourselves, the parents, and then getting them provided the data says it's safe.   At that point, we are still going to be cautious but at least know that the odds we are seriously affected will be very small.

Sad to say....people on my cul de sac didn't even make it through the initial lockdown without being selfish dorks.   18 months?  heck, there are people I know who didn't last 18 days!

    • Day 126: 5/1/24 Putting and chipping practice. Slow motion swings with 8-iron.
    • #4 - 1st hole at Kingsbarns I rolled in a 15 footer for birdie. Showed my caddie an old guy could still play a bit. #3 - 18th hole at Basin Harbor Club, Vergennes, VT. I had played matches against my nephew over the years. He had never beaten me although through the years he had become a long hitting teenage golfer. I was 1 up but bunkered near the 18th green. My nephew had a long putt for birdie. I splashed out of the bunker to 4 feet. He rolled his first putt close and I gave him the par. Sadly for him, I rolled mine in and won our last match. He went off to college and then Europe for a Ph. D. It was our last match. Family champion forever. #2 - First playoff hole in the City of Livonia, MI “65 & Over” division. I rolled in an 8 footer that broke about 4-5 inches. #10 Whispering Willows GC. #1  18th hole at TPC Prestancia, Sarasota, FL. A 4 foot slicing putt for par to beat the prior year’s Member/Guest winners and win the Member/Guest with my father at his club. I was having heart palpitations as I played the final hole solo when my father put two in the water. There was never a better golf sight for me when that ball dove into the hole.
    • Finally, wedges getting somewhere. This one a punch gap from 87 yards to about 12 feet. Contact and ball flight absolute restaurant quality. It's nice when grass comes back.
    • Tiger on the Today show today. At 3:25 he says he's working on keeping his arms in more and rotating his hips better. Nice.
    • Day 11- Slow,  short swings with short practice club.
