Golf Mat for Backyard With Grass

Hello, I'm gonna buy a mat for my backyard, it has grass.

I need help deciding.

Anyone tried the 5 STAR 3' x 5' GORILLA Commercial Driving Range Golf Mats from Martin Hall?

I wanna practice with my spike shoes on it.

I know nothing about the mat.  Sorry.   What I do know is that the mat will take the contour of your lawn and if you don't have your lawn rolled flat you'll find that the mat won't be flat either.   My lawn looks very nice and I get compliments from my neighbors but I've tried to put my mat on the lawn and it's like a bounce house

I use a mat similar to that one (been long enough I can remember where I got it) on my lawn and it works fine. I've practiced on it while wearing my plastic spikes. It's heavy enough that I haven't felt the mat moving under my feet. Keep in mind that, unless you move the mat frequently or pick it up when not in use, it will kill the lawn underneath.

Very true - I have a similar 5x5’ mat that I ended up needing to build a small, level platform for. My yard is unusually bumpy and poorly graded though, so ymmv.

I use a 10" x 30" Country Club Elite® Golf Mat Hitting Strip.  I dug out about 2" of soil so that it sits flush with my lawn and I just stand on the ground when I hit. But I have a 2 acre yard out in the sticks, so no one can really see where I dug it up.

I have a country club elite as well.  It's awesome.

I just bought the Monster mat. It's 5 x 5 and stupid expensive ($328). This is the same mat I've been hitting off for the last year at the range when the grass is closed. Under commercial use they have held up real well and do not leave all that green residue on your irons. I figured that this is one of those items in life where you could try and save a little and live with many regrets or buy it once for life and be satisfied.

They make a model up from this that you can peg a tee into but that cost even more. I just use one of those rubber tees that sit flush with the mat and that will hold a normal wooden tee.

Also if you can't locate locally shipping will run about $50.

I paired the mat with a Range Servant ball tray. Its rubber, not plastic, sits flush with the lip of the mat and is very heavy. It just absolutely will not move unless you move it. It holds about 50 golf balls.

@dmnoland after over a year now, are you happy with the Monster mat?  Positives and negatives?

I’ve been reviewing pretty much every popular mat out there, and just can’t come to a decision.  CCE, Monster, Fiberbuilt, TrueStrike.

@iacas I’d be interested to hear your preference on practice mats, as you’ve probably had a few over the years.  I’ve seen in your videos, it appears you have a TrueStrike and maybe another.
