Maybe because it felt like a marathon for Koepka, having to play 72 holes. Phil hadn’t forgotten how to at least.

  • 40 years since Seve won his last Masters
  • Seve’s birthday today
  • Fourth Spaniard to win it

I enjoyed this tournament. The weather added some extra drama, though it made for very different playing conditions for players, and made Tiger WD, so I’d do with a bit less weather. A day or two with winds up is fine.

It was a good tournament.  The weather made it very exciting and good TV. Glad Rahm won even though my son had money on Scottie!

Other observations:

Firecracker shrimp. The bomb!

Steak, Mac & Cheese Creamed Corn and Brussel sprouts, excellent!

I wish Scottie won again so we could do that again next year.

Not sure if the Basque Country serves it, but I do love paella!

I’m thinking maybe there was a little regret in his demeanor in the interview after.

Same reason they backstop for each other. It's a "you-scratch-my-back-I'll-scratch-yours" situation.

Some guys do it, most guys from what I understand, some don't.

I think it's all bullshit. Play by the Rules.

I don't understand this, but interesting.  When I am playing a tournament, I definitely would rather not have my friends do well because I want to win.  For me getting beaten by anybody hurts and I want to be at the top.  On the other hand, in a fun round I don't mind my playing partners and opponents doing well though I would still like to beat them.  A money round for me qualifies as a tournament in my mind.  Only a practice round where there is nothing at stake and is more designed for me to figure out a new course or get ready for an upcoming tournament is one where I am OK to be flexible with the rules.  Otherwise I tend to be fussy about it because a bad rules break for an opponent will be good for me.  The only time I want another player to do well is when we play match play in our money rounds.  Then it should be my playing partner does well.

I guess as they say, "Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing".

Well Like Erik said, maybe most guys do it. Imagine being the guy that says, ‘ let me mark that before you hit.’ Now you’re that guy. One of the reasons Erik said it’s all bs. They should all be that guy.

I wonder if Koepka winning the Masters would have led to some kind of rapprochement between the LIV and PGA tours or would just have exacerbated tensions between them.  I guess we can hope it would help but possibly Norman's ego would get in the way and worsen issues.

I don't think it would have changed much, except that Norman and other LIV people would have been insufferable about it. I don't think Brooks cares that much about LIV vs. PGA Tour. Brooks said things like he missed competing on the PGA Tour. Brooks would not have gone to a press conference and talked about how great LIV is. But you bet Greg Norman would have been flooding every golf publication with quotes about how great LIV is and how great he is for the ideas behind LIV, etc.

I think Norman would have made it a talking point and publicity campaign. He would have promoted it during every CW broadcast.
There is a reason the Masters didnt invite him!

The strokes gained data for the Masters is up if anyone wanted to see it. Looks like my Rory observation was correct.

Stats do not lie.....Phil was better SG Putting but John was better SG Off the Tee.  Goes to show "Drive for show, putt for dough" is flat out wrong.

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
