The Overreaction to Scottie Scheffler Feet?

Recommended Posts

I keep hearing people talk about how crazy Scottie Scheffler's feet are during his golf swing. I think it is pretty much a huge overreaction.

I mean, here is Scottie just past impact. Umm... nothing unusual going on here. 🤣

There has been plenty of golfer's who have feet that move around. Bubba's lead foot would rotate a ton into the finish.

Now, my ankles cringe at this position, lol. Still, nothing to crazy. He just lets his right foot slide forward during his turn because he has a wide stance, and his right turn pulls the foot forward.

Nothing strange here.

Yea, I am kind-of getting tired of people talking about what his feet are doing in the golf swing.

Yeah, me too. It IS a bit unusual, though, for them to move that much. But… it's largely after impact, and it shows how much he's putting into it.

People are going to talk about it just because it looks different, and to the majority of the audience, that’s the only part they understand. It’s very similar to the AimPoint looks stupid talking point.

My ankles aren't in the best shape - I could not possibly do what he does.

Would also add, someone like Kyle Berkshire - if you watch him hit drivers, his left foot winds up a long way away from where it started, but it doesn't look as unbalanced as Scheffler's (to my eye anyway).

I think Scheffler only looks unbalanced because he keeps part of his lead foot planted so he ends up kind of rolling his ankle instead. If he let it come off the ground it would move very similar to Berkshire’s.

It's because no one squeezes the shit out of their butt like Scottie does. 😜

Three cups of coffee and an egg and cheese biscuit in I-4 traffic will have you squeezing with the best of them.

    • Rule 1.2b refers you to a section in the Committee Procedures (Section 5I) that helps explain what a Code of Conduct may (and may not) do.  Defining acceptable behavior (including smoking) and applying Stroke of DQ penalties are certainly within the Committee's authority. That Code of Conduct certainly should be available, either in written form or in a webpage accessible to all.  It may not show up on the "standard local rules" for an organization, the "hard card", as it sounds like its a policy of this particular golf course. Assuming that's the case it should show up on the Notice to Players for this particular event.  If you can't find it, ask someone, send an email, try to find out.   In summary, yes the Committee can DQ (or withdraw) a Player for smoking, even before or between rounds.  But its up to you to go from there, communication is the key here.

    • Hmm... I not sure I completely understand. If the course has a no smoking policy, then he shouldn't smoke at the course.  I'm assuming since you are aware of the policy, it must be written down somewhere.  As far as getting disqualified from the tournament, I would think that would be up to the committee. But it feels like it is within their power to disqualify, so why take the chance?
