Back around 2003 when I was in college I went to play a round at the University golf course. I went in to pay.. and there was a line (the course was ALWAYS packed). So after at least 5 minutes.. I come outside and grab my bad.. and.... my driver was missing! A Titleist 975J-VS that I never saw again. I looked everywhere.. asked everyone who was outside in the area, and everyone said they didn't see anything. Wound up going home without even playing.

That bites....big time!!!!!

What part of NC are ya living in? Born and raised in Eastern NC myself. Never had anything stolen from me on / around a golf course. The closest call that I know of was one time playing at the University Club in Blythewood (sp?), South Carolina. This is a beauty of a 27 hole layout....a golfing shrine if you will, dedicated to the SC Gamecocks. My foursome had finsihed our first 18 and were feasting in the grill. We came back to our carts and saw a few guys gathered around my cart. It seems that they weren't liking my East Carolina Pirates headcover and towel and were making some comments. Methinks they were caught just prior to doing something with said covers. I walked up and grinned. They scattered.....well....like chickens being shooed away. I have heard of incidents like yours on a course I used to play in Wilson, NC. The course manager/pro caught someone...a kid on a bike who lived nearby and dealt with him. I suppose one way around this is to use some basic / generic / low cost head covers for your woods / hybid and putter. It's a sad day when theivery hits a golf course.

luckily i have never had anything stolen. I am going to have to be very careful now though, because im going with an all titleist set up.

Left a Cleveland 588 sand wedge on the 18th green once. It was kinda stolen because we were the last group of the day so i would expect the grounds crew to be the people who would find it. I called the clubhouse several times but never got it back. Lesson learned.

I'm so careful with my golf bag, particularly because I had a hockey stick stolen at the rink once when i was 9, and that experience taught me never to trust your nice stuff to strangers.

I've been lucky enough to really only lose a few wedges due to the occasional out of the way placement.

However, when I was a junior golfer, I left a particular sand wedge behind at my local course more than a few times. In each instance, the wedge (a Brunswick lob wedge, my very first) was behind the counter of the pro shop waiting for me.

After about the fourth or fifth time over the summer, the pro apparently took it home to teach me a lesson.

As much as I miss that wedge, the lesson was a valuable one. When not playing in a tourney, I tend to lay my wedges on the flagstick, as it (1) keeps me from forgetting the clubs and (2) keeps the moisture (when present) off the grip.

I also find that for some reason when you lay a club on the flag, it makes everyone else in the group want to put the flag back as normally, there is at least one in the group that tends to never know how much the pin weighs if you know what I mean. Weird, but try it yourself!
Damn you people, this is golf!

Not to offend those that frequent the local muni, but I think that part of that might be playing higher-end courses that aren't frequented by the 16 year-old crowd playing dad's hand-me-downs.....

I think that's a rather elitist and pretentious statement.

I had everything stolen at a golf course once, a very upscale, semi-private club. I forgot to put the bag in the trunk, just left it there beside the car, changed shoes, and drove off. When I got home, and went to take the clubs out of the car, I realized what I had done. I only lived 5 minutes from the course, so I quickly raced back, and they were gone. Never saw them again.

Cheers, Allan

I have had things stolen from me at the golf course two separate times. the first I had my spare driver taken out of the back of my car as I was going to get a golf cart. The second was the most painful though. I was getting ready for a qualifier and video taping my swing the entire day on my Sony Digital Video camera. I went to go get a drink of water from the water fountain and when I came back my camera was missing. I cannot tell you how upset I was. I was a mess and obviously played very poorly in the qualifier.

Good friend of mine went to a practice range in Austin, set his clubs on the bag rack, walked inside to buy a bucket of practice balls, walked back outside a minute later and his clubs were gone... Nobody saw a thing... Some jackass stole his golf bag right off the bag rack... My friend is a big guy and played baseball at UT, if he could have ever found the guy my friend probably would have gone to jail for delivering a severe beating

Have left behind many sand wedges and short irons on greens. Just my own little keyhole of experience, but if I leave it behind in NY or NJ, gone. Midwest, South or elsewhere, recovered. Bastard New Yorkers (I'm one.)

I live and play golf in the Palm Springs area. At the turn I had to use the restroom so I parked my cart (with bag) at the clubhouse to use the restroom and when I returned my Odyssey 2 ball putter had been stolen out of the bag. It is pretty bold to swipe a putter out of someones bag in front of the clubhouse....what the hell is wrong with some people.

I know the thread is old, but I just became a victim this morning at the local muni.

I left my bag unattended to go talk to friends, came back, and my new putter was gone.

I've played golf for over 18 years, and never had anything happen until today.

Just a reminder, keep your eye on your stuff!

I don't think leaving a club behind and never seeing it again equates to something being stolen. Personally I turn stray clubs in if I find one, which is a rare occurance. That said never had anything stolen but I keep an eye on my gear. I don't unload the clubs from the car until I'm checked in and ready to go. From there I'm near my stuff, practice green, range etc. Though I doubt many would give my old Ping's a second look. I don't even carry a driver so not much temptation.

When I play a muni or even go to the range I leave my rain cover on and zipped up when I'm not right next to my clubs.  I haven't ever had a club stolen, but know enough people that have so I take the extra precaution.  The rain cover serves 2 purposes, hides my clubs so no one knows whats in the bag, and forces them to take extra time unzipping it and finding the club they want.

Back from when I was a caddie in high school (late 1960s), several of us got our bicycles stolen while we were out caddying. The thieves evidently pulled up in the club parking lot in a pickup truck and used bolt cutters to break the locks. They tossed a dozen bicycles into their back bed and drove away. The bicycle bandits hit several other country clubs during that summer.

The next spring some thieves got caught at a city park, but our bicycles were long gone by then. The clubs didn't to offer us new bikes.
