Headcovers (Covers) For Irons

A local golf shop had a small-college golfer as a player's rep, and he talked about iron HCs. He put them on his irons before putting them in the equipment van or on the airplane, and took them off at the tournament site. Then, after play was over, he super-cleaned the irons, dried them, and put the covers back on for the trip home.

HE used them strictly for protection in transit.

Keep a set and use them when checking my clubs on an airplane but not for use during play. As a note: my Mizuno's had a note that said not to use head covers because they trap moisture and that can effect the finish.

I guess that choice of words in funny.  I am inpatient, I can't imagine adding that to the routine.  I leave the driver head cover off because no other club can get to it in the bag.

Started using them when I got forged irons for the first time. It was a pain. They fell off, got lost and trapped moisture. Stopped using them and after a couple of months my irons now have very slight bag chatter, which I find doesn't bother me at all.

I started using them after I got a brand new shiny set of MP-67s.  That lasted about as long as it took me to hit a range ball off the toe.  I realized you can possibly practice a lot and still have nice, shiny brand-new looking clubs.  Plus they were such a hassle to get on and off, and the blades develop a nice textured look from bag chatter.  I don't even clean my clubs anymore, to be honest.  I might scrape out the grooves if I need some spin, but other than that, they're pretty filthy.

I'm new to the trap and it's great to be here!! also just purchased a new set of AP2 712s and after searching for head covers to protect my investment i came up empty. does anyone know of some descent head covers available that will fit a blade

that also look nice? most are just one size fits all. any help is appreciated.

Try Ebay.  You should be able to find a nice set, might even be able to find ones that say, "Titleist" on them.  Just keep in mind that if you are playing in wet conditions or early in the morning that you need to dry your clubs off after every shot or else they will rust.

That's exactly what I meant.....plenty of iron covers out there. None that that I'd be caught dead with..... ....my 12 year old daughter likes them on her clubs though.

More hassle then what they are woth, you will feel this way after you notice your holding up play putting them back on or after you lost 3 already.Good luck with them I understand why you would want them but they are just gonna get in the way.

There was a post about this not to long back, and I've come to learn that barely anyone like Iron covers. The only thing a few people actually liked them for was protection when storing your clubs or having them in your trunk. The other reasonable attribute was no club chatter when driving the golf cart around. As for holding up the game, there might be something wrong if you cant get a club head cover off or on in less then a few seconds, but loosing them could become an issue.

This subject has always been a hot topic on forums. The majority of people hate them, I use them. I don't like them but I use them to protect my AP1's, and I don't want them beat to crap. They get more abuse from club chatter than actually hitting balls with them. I used them with a set of TM 1.0's, and when I sold them I got top dollar for them because they were in excellent shape. IMO, its no different than using a headcover for your driver.

To answer your question, Club Glove makes a great one. Which is the one I bought. I believe they make them for all club sizes. Just check the back of the box to ensure they will fit your clubs. These fit great, and do not fall off. Takes a whole 2 seconds to put on.

This is the reason I don't use mine  (except I keep one on my 2i to keep clatter from my driver when I leave the headcover off of it when I take a cart)
