Doesn't look very effective unless the goal isn't just to stay active?

It's been effective for me, I still consider myself a novice. I'm eating more and lifting heavier than when I started and I've stayed at same weight. That's been the goal.

I'm curious why do you think it isn't effective? Each workout takes about an hour and a half and I'm doing it four days a week.

Interesting never heard of him though that isn't saying much obv.

Effective might have been a bit misleading. Should have said efficient and effective. Theres a couple things first it's a classic case of too much too soon. A beginner/novice can get away with doing fairly little and should. If you start out with a half a dozen exercises for legs what are you going to do when that stops working? Also simply increasing the number of exercises you do won't speed up the pace of development significantly but it will slow down recovery(as a novice).

I don't doubt  getting results but you could do less and get the same results and it would probably be a better choice in the long haul. Your program is basically a bodybuilding split where you train each muscle 1/week and focus on the upper body. It isn't a very efficient method especially for a golfer.

Did not mean to come off harsh. Hope I didint. Its just that Ive seen so many poor programs made by IG fitness models that Im allergic to them at this point.

I agree with this being a bodybuilding style workout. It looks very similar to a BB style that I did a couple years ago. Lighter weight with a lot of reps.

No worries dude, thanks for your input. Yeah it's not really a "golf specific" program, more for strength/muscle building, especially the legs/lower back which can't hurt for golf. For mobility work I use bands and a good amount of dynamic stretching and foam rolling. I also do some drill/mapping golf swings between sets.

I took a 60 minute class of power yoga today which I spoke about in more detail in my thread:

I'm trying yoga in order to increase my flexibility and get some cardio at the same time.  It was really interesting but I'm not sure if it's for me.

Has anyone ever tried this calculator.  It says someone that weights 270 pounds, doing power yoga for 60 minutes will burn about 850 calories.  It seemed like a lot and wanted to see if anyone thought that seemed about right.

I read somewhere that running burns about 100 calories a mile. Maybe thats a comparison to use.

I do some similar golf specific exercises. Besides the Joey D stuff, I have a core and plyometric workout that is pretty intense. I use Tabata intervals for the sets. The ones Nick shows are just a small part of a good workout.

Have finally decided that I need to do something about getting fit.  Last couple of rounds was in a cart and when you feel tired after hitting 90 or so shots you know fitness is important.  Started walking on treadmill only so far.  Yesterday was about 25 minutes in 5 or 10 minute stretches and today was two 15 minute stretches.  Burning about 300 calories is a start.

The goal is push it up to at least 30 minutes at a stretch and eventually to an hour, and burn no less than 500 calories, if not more.  Once that is a habit move onto cardio plus some golf specific workouts, primarily targeting the core muscles.

Will update regularly and hope to see an improvement in my fitness, shape and weight

Today also walking on treadmill in 10, then 20 and then 10 minute stretches and burnt about 350 calories maybe.  Less intense than yesterday but happy with the fact that I am attempting to stick to the programme.

Weekend exercise regimen consisted of two rounds of golf.  For me that was more useful and helped with my fitness.  Showed me how much more I need to work on to get my fitness and golf distance up.  Hitting well but need more core workouts to improve

Along with getting back into golf, working on getting back in shape.  Right now about 20 pounds heavy, clothes barely fit, yada yada....

Today's workout, legs followed by accidental basketball.  4 sets of leg presses, 4 sets of calves, 3 sets of quads, and 3 sets of hams....was shooting around afterwards to loosen up before heading home, ended up playing 20 minutes of 2 on 2.  Good sweat, good workout.  200 pounds today, goal is 180.

A question, are you doing these 200 - 250 press ups as one continuous set? Likewise are you holding a plank for 8 minutes? If you are, big respect!!

    • Context:  I am on vacation, so I don't have access to my indoor practice room, and I won't for about a month. Day 12 (August 22).  Today's weather was not one where even I was going to be outside.  For whatever reason, I didn't do the putting drill today.  There was a drill I remembered from this site (the article was something akin to "five things you can do to improve that don't require talent") that involved having an iron along the back from stance, moving to backswing and holding, then moving to forward swing and holding.  So I did that for five minutes today. I also spent 90 minutes at the gym;  my main motivation for getting stronger is golf related (and I really should get back to Fit For Golf  specific workouts;  I'm not sure when I lost that habit, a poor choice on my part that I did).  Funny story, I spent 20 minutes on the Stairmaster today at the gym (the rest was weights and rests), a device I started with shortly after I took up golf because I read something about it in a Butch Harmon book.  I should be following FFG Mike's fitness advice though, not some memory of someone else.
    • Day 8 8-22 Worked on backswing length and getting some speed in backswing. Recorded swings. Was happy with practice session tonight.
    • Day 325 - 2025-08-22 Practiced for almost an hour after cleaning my cabinets to account for the new GEARS cameras and helping @OBlum for a bit. Exaggerating the same old things.
    • Yea, faster greens = shorter putting stroke. You can be more accurate.  Really, I think people who struggle with distance control struggle just as much on slow greens as fast greens. I've seen people blast putts 10-FT past the hole on 8 or 9 STIMP as much as 11-12 STIMP.  I prefer faster greens. Usually means the putting surface is better and again, shorter putting stroke.
