I'm not a golf historian.  How many examples are there of guys switching clubs year-over-year and not missing a beat?  There has to be some.

Mickelson went from Titleist to Callaway in 2005 (actually 2004 but not all clubs until 2005) and had one of his best seasons. 21 events with 20 made cuts, 4 wins including a major (PGA champ) and his average round was 66.58. I think the moral is that these guys can play any clubs and play well. I don't think the club switch will be a problem for Rory. Living up to huge sponser and fan expectations? That might be a different story.

I wonder what the story is behind that?  The bag is clearly not a staff bag and it's strapped to a cart.  Looks like another golfer just "stole" this pic at the course.  :)

It's on a stand bag instead of a staff bag so I'll give give it 50% credibility. Haha...j/k. Also looks like he chose a satin as opposed to the standard chrome. The set up pretty much follows the lines of Tiger up until 2010 - All Nike clubs & Titleist Putter.

Any info on the clubs themselves?  I'm not familiar with Nike's brand so I'm curious to see how "off-the-shelf" they are.

Update 10 January 2013

These are the first pics of Rory’s actual Nike equipment for 2013.  Taken at The Els Club in Dubai where Rory was practicing.

Thanks to David Voller who happened to be walking past and snapped a pic of Rory’s new Nike clubs and there, pride of place was his trusty Scotty Cameron headcover. Notice also though the Swoosh putter headcover of the Nike Method in there too.

There are 15 clubs in the bag shown.  Along with the Nike VR II Pro blades, it looks like Rors is also going to choose between a Pro Combo cavity back long iron, a 3 and 5 fairway wood. Also there are 46, 50 and 54 “Rors” stamped wedges.  The Nike Covert driver is also in the bag.

I’ve been doing Rory’s what’s in the bag since he turned pro so am really delighted to have got the first look at this.

Nike will officially unveil Rory McIlroy as their staffer on the Monday 14th January  at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship where both Rory and Tiger Woods are in the field.

Rory's bag is set to include
(shafts to be confirmed)

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
