Whatever he's doing now, let's hope he's healthy and in a good state of mind. If he is out of the game, I'm trying to think of other pros whose stars shined bright and burned out quickly. The best example I can find is Jodie Mudd: won the Players and Tour Championship in the same year, six major top-tens between 1987 and 1991, then dropped off the face of the earth.

From January 2014:

Noozhawk.com reported today that Anthony Kim is scheduled to appear at a fundraiser on Monday at Sandpiper Golf Club in Santa Barbara, Calif.
The event is a nonprofit foundation created by family and friends of a local girl killed by an alleged drunk driver. Kim will be on hand to conduct a clinic for golfers in the tournament that is part of the fundraiser. It's likely that this isn't the only time he's participated in a community event in the recent past, but this is the first published news on him in some time. Rotoworld was informed by his management firm last March that he was hoping to compete again in "mid to late summer," but it didn't happen. He hasn't played sanctioned golf since the 2012 Wells Fargo Championship due to injuries in his right elbow and left forearm. He then sat out a year after having surgery to repair the Achilles tendon in his left leg. Whenever he returns to the PGA TOUR, he'll have 16 starts on a Major Medical Extension to earn $613,550 and retain status. The three-time winner will turn 29 years of age on June 19. I'd like to see him back out there. He was always exciting to watch. Hopefully he's doing well and working on his game.

I wouldn't get your hopes ups, walking away or partying away from the game, let alone with an injury for a couple of years, there is just too much parity and training involved by all to make a serious comeback likely. There are dozens if not hundreds that have impacted one way or the other where their game goes south just alittle bit......unfortunately that " little bit " is astronomical when compared to the talent now playing. The party is over

It's too bad. From 5th in Fedx points in 2008 and 4.6 Million, to gone in five years. Reminds me of Duval.

Yep. I would be shocked to see him back but he does have a lot of talent. Maybe a little effort could get him back in it but mentally it would be tough.

no Anthony Kim is returning. He is a personal friend of mine and have been for years. He is just making sure he is healthy because when he announces his return he only has 16 starts to earn a little over $613'000... so he is being cautious

I was thinking about Anthony Kim's disappearance a few days ago.  As an Oklahoma State fan, I never really cheered for him much.  But he was great for golf when he was on his game, and he was a big help the last time the U.S. won the Ryder Cup.

And who can forget his 11 birdies in the second round of the 2009 Masters?  Crazy stuff!

Maybe so but what you plan and what really happens are often 2 different things. Stats are against him but I hope he makes it.

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
