Stensens on fire and Tigers flame has dimmed through the season, I really think the shot off the stick into water and penalty at Augusta crushed him early on.  He was on form and in the mix until that awful bad luck and hasn't seemed the same since all season. Dont you just love the way Stenson fires his swing through the ball, amazing !  Watch out for Scotty, he's full of confidence and due another big weekend.  Sneaky bet, back to back from Zac, somebody has to make history and do it sometime and he's red hot off the back of a solid win and a brilliant season.

Just a quick refresher (but mainly just saying this out loud for myself because I'm just learning it and somebody can correct me if I'm wrong) ...

1.  All of the Top 5 control their own destiny.  If Woods, Stenson, AS, Zach, or Kuch win the tournament, they also win the Cup, regardless of what happens behind them.

2.  Everybody in the field, including Dustin Johnson (30), has a theoretical chance at winning the cup.

3.  Steve Stricker (6) is the only other person (besides the top 5 already listed) who has a chance to win the cup WITHOUT winning the tournament.

A lot of exciting possibilities here, but my favorite is that somebody like Nick Watney - who has had a mediocre season with no wins and just a handful of top 5's, including last weekends runner up finish - could continue playing this weekend like he played yesterday and with a little lot of help, he could actually win the Cup.  That would be awesome!

But I'll be rooting for Stricker.  Dude devotes most of his year to family and only plays in something like 10 tournaments, yet still plays well enough to be in this position.

Also rooting for Zach for similar reasons.  He missed the first playoff tournament because of his brothers wedding.

I like the guys with perspective, and the ones who are grounded.

Woods wins the cup, Rose wins the tournament.

That would be a pretty tough outcome though. You'd need Rose to win (obviously), and then Tiger would have to finish second or third: http://www.pgatour.com/news/2013/09/16/scenarios--what-the-final-30-need-to-win-the-fedexcup.html

And why is this a tough outcome to achieve as compared to others?

Just saying, there's a better chance that Tiger finishes somewhere between 4th-30th than exactly 2nd or 3rd. (Not that it really matters. I mainly wanted a reason to post that link. ;-))

I would love to see Jordan Spieth pull it off, but I think he is too far back. I'm going with Stenson because of his accuracy off the tee and his GIR.

Just a quick correction on 3. Steve Stricker is the only player with a chance of winning the FedEx Cup without ANY tournament wins over the entire season. If he finishes solo 2nd, Woods finishes 10th or worse, Stenson finishes 5th or worse, Scott finishes 4th or worse, and Z. Johnson finishes 3rd or worse, he wins the FedEx Cup with 0 wins in the 2013 season.

Stenson's on fire huh? Let's wait and see how the driver's going first.

Not really an issue for these guys with the equipment manufacturers they have at their disposal. But it certainly seems he isn't in love with the big stick at the moment.
As for the winner, hard to look past Tiger, however recent history from the Tour Championship suggests that someone from the middle of the pack is going to pop up and steal it from the guys who have been up there all season. Will be interesting regardless.

Tiger probably wins the tournament, but definitely the Cup. He's led the points for most of the season. He's won all of the biggest events this year that weren't majors. And he has the most scenarios in his favor (ie he can win under more permutations by finishing 2nd, 3rd, etc.) Sure he hasn't won in a while (I mean it's been WEEKS since he's won) but it's not like he's been completely out of any tournament.

    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.

    • Cool here's my tweak, "If a player’s ball lies in the general area and there is interference from exposed tree roots or exposed rocks that are in the fairway or 1 club length from the fairway the tree roots and exposed rocks are treated as ground under repair. The player may take free relief under Rule 16.1b.[But relief is not allowed if the tree roots only interfere with the player’s stance.]
    • I would never do the extended warranty on the $50 slow cooker.  I also routinely reject the extended service plans on those toys we buy for the grand-kids.  I do consider them on higher cost items and will be more likely to get one if the product has a lot of "Electronic Tech" that is often the problem longer-term.  I also consider my intended length of ownership & usage.  If my thought is it would get replaced in 2-3 years then why bother but if I hope to use it for 10 years then more likely to get the extension. I did buy out a lease about a year ago.  Just prior to the lease end date the tablet locked up and would not function.  I got it repaired under the initial warranty and would not have bought it out if they had not been able to fix it since IMO once electronic issues start in a car they can be hard to track down & fix.  They did fix it but when I bought out the lease I paid up for the extended warranty the would cover electronic failures because my intent is to keep that car for another 8-10 years and I just do not trust the electronics to last.  Last week the touch screen went black and was unresponsive.  It reset on the 2nd time I restarted the car but that is exactly how the last malfunction started.  I fully expect to have a claim on that on repair under the extended warranty.  I do not recall the exact cost to fix last time since I did not pay it but I think it was @ $700-$800 and I suspect that will be higher next time.
    • Have you looked at Model Local Rule F-9 Relief from Tree Roots in or Close to Fairway?  You could extend this to cover exposed rocks.  The rule is recommended to be used only for areas relatively near the fairway, a player who hits a shot 20 yards in the woods doesn't really deserve relief.   Players can always take Unplayable Ball relief, they're not required to play it from a rock or a root.  Of course, they hate to take the penalty stroke too.
