Well by now most, if not all of you cold, winter living  folks have immerged from your golf hibernation.

I'd like wish you all a speedy restart, and tune up for your golf games.

May you all be playing in 70*F to 90*F temps soon. 👍

The course usually open in beginning of May but we have a lot of flooding in the area and a couple of course is hit by that so opening is postpone 1-2 week there. I will try to have my first game of the year in the first week of May, if I can squeeze a round somewhere!

Well, ugh. We've had a rain/snow mix the past day or so, and it sucks. I have the day off tomorrow, but it's probably 50/50 on whether I'll be able to play. There isn't a ton of snow cover anywhere, but enough to where courses are closed. I also have a tournament on Saturday, but that will probably be okay. I've had horrible luck this year on my Friday days off. I've been able to play only a couple of times on those days. Not cool.

I know what you mean. I have a tee time tomorrow afternoon at Fossil Trace, but I doubt the course will be open by then.  I also have a tee time on early Saturday morning, but even that is looking iffy.  Unless this snow melts fast tomorrow (the weather forecast indicates not likely), no golf until may be after I come back from a business trip next week.

Ugh!

Ugh!

There is close to zero accumulation downtown, so further east will definitely be okay Saturday morning. There really isn't that much on the west side of town at this point, so I think Saturday will probably be okay. Depends on when this stops, but I think that's supposed to be relatively soon?

It's funny, though, I saw that someone else and had posted in this thread, and knew immediately it was you. Like clockwork, we're on here complaining in the spring, haha.

Well it's too late (except for A-basin) in the season for 🏂, so nothing to do but complain about the spring snow.

Cheers! 🍺

Pretty lame start of the season for me so far. 18 of the last 22 days have had some sort of rain and it always seems to coincide with whatever day I have available to play golf.

I feel your pain...   I've played 6 times this year and  two years ago, I had twice that many.    It's either rainy or too cold still.    We booked a tee time at Sheperd's Hallow, a very nice course near me for Monday.    Last week's forecast for Monday was 62 and sunny.   Now the forecast is rain and a high of 48°.

In April, we had 16 days of rain or snow.   So far in the first 9 days of May, we've had 6 days of rain. and 8 of the next 13 days are predicted for rain.

I'm going to play Sunday morning. In the rain. High of 55.

Maybe 🤔

I’ve played 3 times in the rain this year. Best thing is the courses are empty!

I played in a lot of rain last year, not exactly excited to repeat that.

I set my alarm, woke up before it went off, heard the rain hitting my window, and went back to sleep.

I probably would have gone out anyway but they changed the forecast from periods of clouds and rain to straight rain until 2PM. Can't win with this weather.

This spring has been the wettest, coldest, and cloudiest I remember. Yesterday was beautiful, but I didn't play. Other than that the only nice days have been on Mondays and Tuesdays, and work tends to get in the way. All the courses are in awful shape. I hope they get better weather for the PGA next week, but I doubt it.

Last year sucked, too, even into the summer. I played in a lot of wet conditions and rain last year.

I'm kind of in the same boat. Yesterday was gorgeous and I was busy. Today I have time for 36 holes and am going to play exactly zero. When I do have the opportunity during the week, I run into tee time issues with the 9-hole course by me due to leagues.

Heard the forecast isn't looking good.

So I am in NJ and had a tee time this morning at 10 AM at Royce Brook GC.  Woke up and it was raining.  Like you, I checked the forecast, and it says rain through the day.

My buddy with whom I was suppose to golf today, calls and says he's not playing.

No matter where I go, this winter has not been kind to my golf schedule.

Went out yesterday at 7 am. 41* and it started raining lightly.
Played the front and at the turn, I told my buddies "sorry but I better call it a day before rigamortis sets in"
My hands were numb, knees and back became stiff, not my idea of a fun day of golf.

Although I hated to leave good company, I elected to grab some breakfast and warm the old bones.
The rain continued and it became a bit heavier as the day went on.
But my buddies finished an hour and a half later.

    • Day 470 - 2026-01-13 Got some work in while some players were using the sim, so I had to stick around. 🙂 Good thing too, since… I hadn't yet practiced today until about 6:45 tonight. 😛
    • That's not quite the same thing as what some people messaged me today.
    • Day 152 1-12 More reps bowing wrists in downswing. Still pausing at the top. Making sure to get to lead side and getting the ball to go left. Slow progress is better than no progress.
    • Yea, if I were to make a post arguing against the heat map concept, citing some recent robot testing would be my first point. The heat map concept is what I find interesting, more on that below. The robot testing I have looked at, including the one you linked, do discreet point testing then provide that discrete data in various forms. Which as you said is old as the hills, if you know of any other heat map concept type testing, I would be interested in links to that though! No, and I did say in my first post "if this heat map data is valid and reliable" meaning I have my reservations as well. Heck beyond reservations. I have some fairly strong suspicions there are flaws. But all I have are hunches and guesses, if anyone has data to share, I would be interested to see it.  My background is I quit golfing about 9 years ago and have been toying with the idea of returning. So far that has been limited to a dozen range sessions in late Summer through Fall when the range closed. Then primarily hitting foam balls indoors using a swing speed monitor as feedback. Between the range closing and the snow flying I did buy an R10 and hit a few balls into a backyard net. The heat map concept is a graphical representation of efficiency (smash factor) loss mapped onto the face of the club. As I understand it to make the representation agnostic to swing speed or other golfer specific swing characteristics. It is more a graphical tool not a data tool. The areas are labeled numerically in discrete 1% increments while the raw data is changing at ~0.0017%/mm and these changes are represented as subtle changes in color across those discrete areas. The only data we care about in terms of the heat map is the 1.3 to 1.24 SF loss and where was the strike location on the face - 16mm heal and 5mm low. From the video the SF loss is 4.6% looking up 16mm heal and 5mm low on the heat map it is on the edge of where the map changes from 3% loss to 4%. For that data point in the video, 16mm heal, 5mm low, 71.3 mph swing speed (reference was 71.4 mph), the distance loss was 7.2% or 9 yards, 125 reference distance down to 116. However, distance loss is not part of a heat map discussion. Distance loss will be specific to the golfers swing characteristics not the club. What I was trying to convey was that I do not have enough information to determine good or bad. Are the two systems referencing strike location the same? How accurate are the two systems in measuring even if they are referencing from the same location? What variation might have been introduced by the club delivery on the shot I picked vs the reference set of shots? However, based on the data I do have and making some assumptions and guesses the results seem ok, within reason, a good place to start from and possibly refine. I do not see what is wrong with 70mph 7 iron, although that is one of my other areas of questioning. The title of the video has slow swing speed in all caps, and it seems like the videos I watch define 7i slow, medium, and fast as 70, 80, and 90. The whole question of mid iron swing speed and the implications for a players game and equipment choices is of interest to me as (according to my swing speed meter) over my ~decade break I lost 30mph swing speed on mine.
    • Maxfli, Maltby, Golfworks, all under the Dicks/Golf Galaxy umbrella... it's all a bit confounding. Looking at the pictures, they all look very, very similar in their design. I suspect they're the same club, manufactured in the same factory in China, just with different badging.  The whacky pricing structure has soured me, so I'll just cool my heels a bit. The new Mizuno's will be available to test very soon. I'm in no rush.
