I thought Ricky Fowler played really well today. I got a sneaking suspicion he may light it up.  Good to see Tiger playing pretty decent, I wouldn't count him out. Then there's Justin Rose, this could get really interesting.

This is one my favorite tournaments of the year. Always a good one. Tiger had his ups and downs, definitely a weird round. Sad about Dustin Johnson, hope he gets better. That course looks really cool on television.

Interesting. Tiger goes from 100-1 odds yesterday to 12-1 odds this evening. I put $30 on Tiger last night to win outright. It is probably still a long shot, but would be awesome if he could pull it off. I really think Justin Rose or Rickie Fowler will win. We will know a lot more tomorrow.

A two under round from Tiger, despite the loose shots and a few horrendous putts, is very respectable.

If Tiger could have just managed par on those bogey holes and that double he would be tied for the lead or leading I think.  In his past Tiger never made many bogeys.  His good shots are good but he needs to stop those bogey holes. Hell, the first bogey on #1 NEVER should have happened.  That SHOULD have been birdie and definitely at least a par.

I think he just needed reps.

Good drivers win this tournament. Dont think Tiger stands much of a chance this week. I like Scott or Furyk to win this bad boy.

It has been quite a few years since Tiger has been viewed as a good driver and yet he has won 4 of the last 8, so I challenge your premise.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Tiger was ranked 17th last year and 6th in 2012 on total driving. IIRC, he led the driving stats for quite a while last year.

That includes hitting irons and fairway woods off the tee which he does a lot.

You're right. The bogey on #1 was shocking, frankly.

J.B. Holmes playing well. Could be a dark horse next week playing in his home state. Played well at the Ryder Cup in Valhalla 6 years ago. Was picked by Captain Azinger because of his knowledge of Valhalla and went 2-0. You know he's been waiting for this PGA Championship for a long time.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
