I say drop the tee height, move the ball back further inside the lead heel, shorten the club shaft and get those hands in the air, watch the ball fly straighter and farther, because with renewed confidence comes a faster swing speed and more smash.

That is a plan for loss of distance.

Not IMO.

Lower Spin, Higher Launch angle = Longer distance

Higher Spin, Lower Launch angleΒ = Shorter distance

Keeping the ball forward enough to hit up on the ball produces a higher launch and lower spin.

I think most weekend players try to tee the ball up too high and too forward in their stance, to hit way up on the ball and achieve maximum distance, it makes sense but I think it costs them, this setup with the long shafts they use creates a flat swing and lots of errant shots.

I say drop the tee height, move the ball back further inside the lead heel, shorten the club shaft and get those hands in the air, watch the ball fly straighter and farther, because with renewed confidence comes a faster swing speed and more smash.

Honestly, I see the exact opposite most of the time. People tee too low and too far toward the middle of their stance which encourages them come down too steep and pull slice the ball. Now, I realize this trend may change based on how good the people you are, so it's possible you see a different pattern.

Same here. Even in some decent players who could be hitting it longer.

This is key. I was playing the ball pretty far forward last year thinking I needed to hit up on the ball. But it was also too far in terms of my swing circle. I finally went to a launch monitor late last fall and found out I was hitting up 4-6 degrees, but also out-to-in by 1-3 degrees. This lead to many hooks and slices depending on my face angle.

I've moved the ball position back to maybe a half ball ahead of my heel. I've adjusted my stance per my Evolvr instructor to set up with my hips more forward and centered my backswing. My numbers are still 1-2 degrees positive AoA, but now swinging in-to-out by 1-2 degrees.

Random Question: I see tons of info repeating the same thing the slice is caused by an out to in swing, as well as club face. I am wondering is it possible to create a massive hook with an out to in swing path or is a massive hook only done with an in to out path?

If the clubface is shut in relation to the swing path, you bet.

That is my miss, so yes unfortunately.

Yes it would be described as a pull-hook. Clubface would have to be aimed well left or "closed" to the path. Ball mostly starts where the face is pointed and curves away from the path.

Reading again this great topic. I am having issues with my driver, and it makes me see the fairway too narrow... and the hazars so huge.

What is your miss? Slice? Pull? Or are you blocking the shots? I'd get a video on the driving range and post it on My Swing.

ItΒ΄s a Slice. I will put a video, but until then IΒ΄d try to get as much info as I can and keep working....

Posting a video will definitely be the fastest and most efficient way for you to spend your practice time. It may be scientifically easy to say what causes a slice in terms of path, etc. However, what you are doing in your swing to cause that can really only be solved with a video.Β

Then you're presenting an open club face in relation to club path at impact. My guess is that you're coming over the top, too.

I'd suggest buying a pair of alignment sticks. Get some electric tape. Measure your shoulder width. One of the sticks mark your shoulder width. I used the electric tape to mark this. We know feel isn't real. So when you're told to stand feet shoulder width apart you know exactly where this is now. You'll need these when you start correcting your alignment. I use them at every range session. They help me make sure my feet are aligned properly in relation to my club path.Β
