If you play in sandals (flip-flops) ...

Who does that?

Although, i"ve seen spiked sandals advertised, I've never seen anyone with sandals while playing golf.

You are not a golfer IF...

you talk longer on the tee box than actually swing the club.

Bunk!!!  I've carried one since the early 80's, and it's the only one I've ever owned.  (I don't "fish", just recover my own ball when possible)

Double bunk!!!  Golf is a social game.  I'd rather talk family etc., on the course than hang my laundry out on Facebook or Twitter.

Here's my contribution:  You aren't a real golfer if you can't correctly take relief from a water hazard, obstruction, GUR, or unplayable lie.  I don't care how many retrievers you own - that's irrelevant to playing the game.

You seem to take things waaayyyy too seriously.

This thread is all in jest...

I should've added that I am including preshot routines.

I've seen some guys yaking people's ear off before getting ready for his tee shot.  Drives me nuts!

You're a non-golfer if you say..."Let's go golfing". instead of "Let's go play golf"  I'm sure it's grammatically correct but it drives me nuts to hear.  Also, you're definitely a non-golfer if you don't remove the stickers from from your clubs after a purchase.

Hey!!!  I'll have you know that Let's Go Golfing was the name of my fantasy football team last year!  Of course, I did finish tenth out of ten teams, but that's entirely beside the point.  Screw you!! :-P

Also, my driver still has a bar code sticker on it.

I'll add one, you're a non-golfer if you think your mental game is holding you back from being a scratch golfer.

Good one.  I don't do this though.  I know it's not my mental game's fault that I'm not scratch.

It's my coaches' fault. :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

I appreciate the idea that swing faults hold the mass majority of golfers back to one degree or another, but I don't know how you can completely discount a person's mentality. Whatever the golf swing, its hard to hit the ball when you can't see straight. When the rage grips, the simplest decisions can turn out wrong. Anxiety can take the most routine putt and make it near impossible. Maybe it just varies by the person. Confident, well-adjusted people may not have these problems. Then there are the rest of us.

I don't think he is discounting the mental side of the game.. He is stating that people who believe that "mental game" is what is holding them back from being "scratch" are delusional that's all..

If you don't replace divots and fix ball marks.

If you don't rake the trap.

If you play OB as a lateral.

If you need to get drunk while playing golf.

If you don't know how to post a score.

If you NEVER post a score.

If you think lessons are a waste of time and money.

Off Topic:

This is the thread I was thinking of when I made my post. There are scratch golfers with terrible mental games, I knew several of them growing up.

You haven't played with me lately, have you? I never think I'm going to pull off any shot, and have missed putts for birdie thinking I just missed a par.

If you have a good enough swing, it gets you towards the greens. If you have a really good swing, it gets you on them even if you don't think you can do it.

Never underestimate the power of having a good swing and contact.

You are not a real golfer if you step into the woods to pee and without washing your hands, offer a handshake on the 18th to finish.

If you use a handicap in a tournament.

Or if you use a cart when you are practicing. (It's accepted if you use one when your just out for fun)

Our high schools use raw scores. I was thinking of posting something to explain that one.

You aren't a real golfer if you don't cringe when someone calls a putter a "flatstick".
