The above and a few more could have been taken the wrong way. Don't think it was intended to be harsh at all, he even said it's not us. Also don't think anyone else in this thread meant any harm.

Maybe this has nothing to do with why he hasn't been around, he may be spending all his free time hackin a golf club in the lake  Gave my two cents that's all

Ok, I'll concede that I can see how that one could be misconstrued as a personal attack, but that's just what it would be - misconstrued.

Maybe some took it a bit further than it needed to, but he was given numerous outs and stood by his story.  I don't know how you compare a hole in one to the topic of this thread.  If someone tells you they can fly or do something else that is not physically possible (like hitting a golf ball out of a foot of water) you'd call them out on it.

I believe @MS256 of the water, I don't believe the water was a foot deep or that it was a legal stroke (scoop).   I also don't believe he's lying, I just think he's remembering the incident the way fishermen remember the size of the fish that got away.

Yeah, also plausible, but I don't recall him stating any other "fish stories" in the past.

Cool. I wouldn't have believed it could have been done. I bet that foam pad under the pool helped. :-)

Ironically, I believe at least part of the reason that dude didn't die is also the reason you can't hit a golf ball out of a foot of water.

That's precisely why I posted it. :-P

Like I mentioned earlier, you would need a swing that could carry a drive 800 yards or more to barely be able to do it. Enough energy does win in the end, but I'd like to see the shaft and mechanism that doesn't snap to do it. :-D

Yup.  It's all about the way water resists movement.  As a scuba diver, I've seem plenty of it first hand.  We teach beginning divers to think before they move, then to move slowly.  Slow, deliberate movements have very little resistance, but the faster you try to move, the more resistance is felt.  I can hold my hand out to my side and move it slowly and my body will remain relatively motionless, but if I move my hand quickly, my hand will move only a little and my body would rotate instead.  A diver can only comfortably swim against about a 1 knot current, and even that will tire you out quickly.  Anything faster and the water resistance will be nearly impossible to overcome.

By the same principle, the harder you try to hit a golf ball in the water, the more the water will resist the attempt.

Then you get into the rules of golf about if you are making a stroke or are you scooping the ball

2:10- Brad Faxon hits out of water (1 inch of water buffers between club and ball). It's not a foot deep. They mention that in thick enough rough, the club will never contact the ball either.

2:50- Brad hits out of popcorn (1/60th density of water). Brad puts it on the studio green.

4:00- Brad hits out of jello.

6:00- Deep spaghetti!

I agree with those above saying this was all good-natured. One of my favorite threads for a while!

When I first watched that video I felt bad for Brad and his tan pants. I imagine the spaghetti sauce didn't come out of those easily.

I tend to agree that calling him a liar is a little over the line.

Nobody called him a liar.

When I said "physics says he's lying" I meant "that's not possible." It occurred very early on in the discussion. @MS256 responded by laughing and once again saying something like "I was there" as if we were still wrong.

Like some of mentioned, it is possible to scoop the ball out.

We discussed that already too. It's not a legal stroke.

Simply put, we were a little too hard on @MS256

Nope. We're men. If we can't take a little teasing, well, that's lame.

It's not possible.

Nobody knows.

Obviously everyone here hopes it's more that and not that something went wrong with his family or friends.

I went to school with a guy who ran track.  I met his mom one day and she insisted that her son ran the mile in 3:35.  i told her you surely mean 4:35 (still fast for high school).  She insisted that no, she was there and 3:35 was his time.  I told her that's not possible because the world record (at the time) was 3:52.  So he just lowered the world record time by 17 seconds and no one knows about it?!?  How come i didn't see this on CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, ESPN and on the front page of the every newspaper in the world?

As Mark Twain said, "It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so."

Sometimes I guess it depends on who is doing the teasing and who is getting teased. Been there done that

As has been said many times, typed statements get taken totally wrong sometimes. Really hope I am wrong and this is not the case here.

I think I know what you are getting at here.  There are certain guys who do not take "ribbing" well.  As such, we (me and my friends) left those guys alone.

FWIW, I never got the idea the @MS256 was one of those guys.

I really hope everything is fine with him and/or his family.

    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
