Post your warm up routine prior to hitting balls at the range or before a round.

Mine:

  1. Lateral arm swings.
  2. Arm circles.
  3. Active Quad stretches (step and grab foot then stretch quad. (from Joey D's Golf Body DVD).
  4. Active hamstring stretches (high kicks Joey D).
  5. Rotation with club hold both ends, right and left. (Joey D)
  6. Swing club standing straight up (easy).  Focus on stretching outside of arms and obliques.
  7. Swing club back and forth in normal posture.  Slowly increase speed.
  8. @Foursum Golf e and shoulder rotation exercise (#4 on this post: http://thesandtrap.com/t/71782/five-ways-to-tune-your-game-no-talent-necessary#post_935180).  Do it three times.
  9. Start hitting balls easy.

It mostly depends on how much time I have beforehand, but the full routine goes like this: [List] 1. Standing toe reach. 2. Stand up into raised arms yoga pose. 3. Crescent moon pose, both sides. 4. Standing quad stretch, both legs. 5. Arm circles with club in hand. 6. Torso twists with Orange Whip Trainer across shoulders. 7. Light swings with Orange Whip Trainer. 8. Full speed practice swings with driver or whatever club I'm going to hit. [/list] At the range, I'll always start with wedge shots. If I'm short on time before a round, I'll jump straight to swings with the Orange Whip, sometimes not even that much.

  2. Take driver out and swing it slowly a few times (anywhere from 0 to 4 or 5).
  3. Profit!

I've never really warmed up much. Playing soccer my warmup is typically to just start helping the goalie warm up with some good hard long-distance shots. Running, my warm up would be to walk outside. In tennis I warm up by hitting the ball back and forth and not running (wasting energy) to retrieve some wide shots. Etc.

Maybe it'll change when I'm 40 or something, but that's good for now.

Remove clubs from trunk.

Take driver out and swing it slowly a few times (anywhere from 0 to 4 or 5).

Profit!

I've never really warmed up much. Playing soccer my warmup is typically to just start helping the goalie warm up with some good hard long-distance shots. Running, my warm up would be to walk outside. In tennis I warm up by hitting the ball back and forth and not running (wasting energy) to retrieve some wide shots. Etc.

Maybe it'll change when I'm 40 or something, but that's good for now.

That sounds like my warm up routine!

  1. Remove clubs from trunk.
  2. Stretch out core by bending over to change shoes.

That's it. Extremely rare that I will hit balls prior to teeing off, in fact if there is time to hit balls before teeing off I'll head to the chipping and putting green instead. The last thing I want to be doing before teeing off is working on my swing!

I'm one of those "easily embarrassed" types so I tend to do stretching which isn't as obvious as some people (*cough* Jimenez *cough*). For me it's a small replication of my old martial arts warm-up with a few toe-touches, a few hands-on-hips side bends, some shoulder rotations and some arm and lat stretches while I'm standing back from the tee. Then a couple of loose club swings to make sure nothing feels tight and off I go.

It depends on the weather for me. If it'110*F out side I "might"  swing a few clubs. If it's under 50*F, I will do some stretching, then swing a few clubs. I am also pretty sure there have been times when I used the first 2-4 holes to finally get warmed up, swing wise. That's usually the case when I arrive late to my tee time.

One thing is for sure, if I do warm up, what ever club I plan on using on the first tee, is the last club I warm up with.

My routine is short and sweet:

  1. Grab each end of sand wedge and stretch back over my head, then stretch to the side a little bit.
  2. A few "torso twists" ... if that's even a name.;)
  3. A few slow practice swings.
  4. A few pitches
  5. A few full swings with SW, and then it's off to the races.

That's pretty much it.

P.S.  I forgot step zero, which is:  Take 4 Advil prior to leaving for range.

Really? Why? Bad back?

Yes.  A couple of herniated disks in my lumbar region.  Kept me out of golf completely for a few years, did some physical therary to allow me to play, but still always take the medicine.

Now that you bring it up, maybe it's time I try to skip that step and see if I'm still OK.

Occasionally I'll hold a club overhead for a stretch and do a few toe touches. Here's what I do before a round.

- Start with pitch shots.

- After a few pitches I make some 3/4 wedge swings. This is all I really need to "get warm".

- Then start making full swings with my 8 iron.

If there isn't time to hit any balls  I make some medium speed swings with a 6 iron and driver.

  1. Hold the ends of a long club and raise it overhead 10 times.
  2. Still holding the club I do 10 ATG squats while raiseing club overhead while in the down position.
  3. 10 toe touches.
  4. Still holding the club I do 10 rotations each way while keeping hips still.

I will hit some balls on the range before a round but it does not make any difference if I do not. But I always do the above before

a round and before practice.

Used to be: put on my golf shoes, pay and head to the first tee.

Now, it's hit a small bucket: driver, mid-irons, some wedge and putting .  If I have time, then some chip-shots before putting.

I'm kinda limber so I don't take but a few stretches.

1)  Torso twist, some squats and forearms.

2)  2 club swings, just a few to stretch out

3)  Use a TI training club to set my tempo (TI7)

4)  Hit few balls with it to set my timing

5) Hit all the odd clubs up to to driver, then all the even clubs back down

* Unless I have some real bug to work on , I usually fix my swing with a 7 or 6 iron

Couple bends - to change shoes

Couple dead lifts - put bags on cart

Speed walking - to pay at the clubhouse

Couple swings with the driver and I'm (not so) good to go

I have a fairly long walk from the clubhouse to the first tee - enough to get the heart pumping if I walk fast. When it's cold - don't laugh - I'll do a bunch of jumping jacks to warm up (and I wonder why I'm always by myself). If I'm early, I'll hit the 9th green which is on the way to the first tee and practice some putting and chipping. The main thing when I get to the first tee is to take some easy full practice swings - maybe 5-10. If I haven't hurt myself by this time, I'm probably ok to take an easy tee shot.

What I should do is hit a small bucket at the driving range before a round but I rarely want to take the time or spend the money.

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.  
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
