Tiger Woods is considering a return to the Phoenix Open, according to a published report, while his agent said Wednesday that no decision has been made for where Woods will play his first tournament of the new year.

Golf.com reported that Woods is making plans to play in the event called the Waste Management Phoenix Open, which takes place Jan. 29-Feb. 1 in Scottsdale, by making courtesy car arrangements and hotel plans. Woods last played in this event in 2001.

Everyone remember this?

I remember that a guy was following him around with a gun in his fanny pack or something. He probably does too…

Nice, I was thinking he would debut at Humana because Phoenix and Farmers were back to back. Guess I'll have to wait one more week to see him.

Or perhaps he's just making plans to go to the Super Bowl? :-P

It's a brave move by Tiger if the sources are accurate. If he doesn't play well, the galleries are bound to turn ugly on him in no time.

Will he be able to contend in anything before The Masters, I wonder. I didn't watch the Hero World Challenge, but he finished tied for last there.

I don't think he has to win anything before the masters but it would be nice to see him put together 4 solid rounds. His full swing didn't look to rusty but his short game needs a lot of work.

I think his full swing looked pretty good, actually. Some of his driver swings were butter.

For some reason that made me smile - it's worded as though Tiger's been on Expedia and sorted out his Red Roof and Chevy Malibu from Enterprise for his next business trip...

It would be good to see him in this tournament, though.

Agreed. He'll probably play 5 events (Waste management, Farmers, Honda, Doral, Bay Hill) to get his game into gear before Augusta. It'll be nice if he wins one though

Ditto. The swings looked really nice. Let's not forget that he lost 5 strokes around that 13th green alone in 2 days, all after he had initially landed the ball on the green. If he gets that short game in order, he'll do very well

The guy with the gun.  That may well be perfectly legal in AZ.  Even may be legal to carry a loaded revolver on your hip for all to see, in AZ and other states.  I doubt the golf management could restrict such state law. Makes no difference if public or private place, the right to carry weapons is paramount, in the eyes of many persons, including lawmakers.

What if someone threatened you with a 9i, wouldn't you feel better if you had a .44 magnum on your hip?

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
