Looks like it's around an 8 hour drive for me so I would be interested in the possibility of joining. This could be my golf trip for this year, I'm going to try to make a trip to a different area each year to golf with fellow ST people.

Unfortunately me and my plus 1 are out. It doesn't work for my plus one this time so it is a no go for both of us then since my plans hinged around his availability. Sounds like fun though so I expect to see pictures of how great of a time you all had.

I'll just bump this up, and tag the guys who have expressed interest.  We're definitely looking at April 9 at Stoneleigh, April 10 at Springfield, both days teeing off at about noon.  Please let us know if you can commit to those dates.

 @SavvySwede; @RFKFREAK; @k-troop; @RandallT; @dsc123; @davechen; @DaveP043@billchao

At this stage we have 3, @jsgolfer, @GolfLug, and myself.

Just one little hurdle for me to deconflict my schedule, and I'll be good to go. Thanks for the effort to put this together!  I'll be in touch here by mid-week. I can definitely do Day 1 as it stands now.

I'm definitely out guys, sorry. Dental work ended up being more than they told me it would be.

I'm in for one of the two days.  Saturday works for me.  I don't think I can get away with abandoning the family the whole weekend.

By the way, if there's an empty slot, I could bring my son.  He's 12 and hasn't broken 50 over 9 holes (from the ladies' tee), but I think he will this year.  He's been improving a lot in the past year.

Sorry guys but I'm likely out too.  I'm tied up with work that weekend.

Unfortunately I'm either working locally or traveling for work 6 of 12 weekends from mid-Feb thru mid-May.  Hopefully after that it'll be game on for golf!  Not much on the calendar from mid-May through the end of the FY.

Thanks, guys.  For those who can't make it, I'm sad to see you drop out, but I completely understand.  For those who are in, either partway or all the way. I'm glad you'll be with us.  Thinking about @Jeremie Boop potentially coming from Ohio made me take a quick look at hotels, and I was pleasantly surprised.  I'm seeing a reasonable number of decent places in my area (Reston or Herndon, VA) at under $80 per night, which is a really good price around here.  I picked my area specifically because its about halfway between the two courses, and I know the neighborhoods and restaurants enough to be able to recommend things.  One in particular that I've had friends stay at is the Residence Inn in Herndon, at $75 a night.  If @iacas does decide to TIVO the Masters and join us instead, I know an Outback really close.  I'll keep nudging everyone to keep posting in this thread so @jsgolfer and I can make the plans we need to.

I'm coaching a college team event those days anyway.

I'll sum up the responses so far.  We have definite YES from:

@DaveP043, @jsgolfer, @GolfLug for both days

@RandallT for Saturday for sure, working to join us Sunday too

@davechen for Saturday only, could bring his son too

We haven't heard from @SavvySwede, @dsc123, or @RFKFREAK since we finalized the dates.  @Jeremie Boop was interested, but didn't commit.

As far as I know, there's only one time-sensitive aspect.  As I mentioned, I can pre-pay for guest fees, three for the price of two, which reduces the cost from $75 down to $50.  The only catch is, the offer ends on Feb 29, Monday.  At this stage, since @jsgolfer will pay only a cart fee due to reciprocity between our clubs, I only need three "cheap" guest passes.  If anyone else can commit, I'll do my best to get the best deal possible.

@DaveP043 I can commit to one round over that weekend at this point, not two.  So if you need another body to finalize arrangements put me down.  I don't care which day--I'm just going to need to reserve one day that weekend to get some work done (and appease the wife a bit since I'm working so many weekends from March-May).

So far it looks like it's a pretty good chance that I will be able to make it. I just have to make sure I manage my finances properly because I'll be moving into a new place right around that time and will need to have the deposit and first months rent ready.

We'll definitely have a spot for you on at least one day.  Assuming @RandallT does make it both days, and that @Jeremie Boop's finances work out, we have 6 (7 if @davechen's son joins us) on Saturday and 5 on Sunday.   Do you want to wait a bit and see which day works best for you?

That's fine, but I was also going to give you the option to commit me to the pre-pay day if you need someone for that.

I don't have any actual work meetings or travel that weekend, just two big briefings we're working on for the end of April so I know I'll need to set aside some time that weekend.  And since that weekend is one of the few I'm home I'll need to reserve a day for the family!

I'll go ahead and do that.  If I have a single guest pass not used, I'll find someone to invite some other time.  It seems odd these days, outside of TST all of my golf buddies play at the same club as I do.

Sorry, fellas, I'm out, too.

March is the busiest time of year for me and I promised the gf that we'd do QT together.

Have fun!

We ARE looking at April 9 and 10, but that may be your catch-up time with the gf after a busy March

    • The putting green itself is fine. It's the same green we have here. They just need to learn how to chip "into" the grain instead of just down-grain all the time. You have to hit it solid. The launch monitors and the simulator software are garbage right now. Nobody wants to say anything bad about the LMs because Tiger is a partial owner or something. The software has 3Ws stopping in ten feet on the green, and balls bouncing all of 11 yards after flying 311 in the fairways.
    • Explain this:   Send 3 and 4 pence we're going to a dance.
    • Although fun to watch on a winter night, I don't think the simulation is anywhere near accurate. Watched Kevin Kisner hit a shot onto a green slope that would not roll back. When they got to that spot, they couldn't place a ball there without it rolling down the hill. Had to move to another location. The greens remind me of the pooltable-like surface of a Mini Golf course. Balls just take off and roll away. Chipping from off the green seems tricky on the surface they use. And what's with Tiger spitting during the round? It's an indoor carpet. Don't know why atheletes need to spit outdoors, let alone on an indoor carpet surface.
    • Maybe this is what you were getting at?  Doing some math. Comparing JumboMax versus Tour Velvet, standard size in both.  I got the force required using the JumboMax grip, to achieve the same rotational acceleration as the Tour Velvet, is about 1.37 more for the JumboMax grip. Interestingly, the Jumbomax grip is about 17% larger than the Tour Velvet, and 17% lighter for the standard size. I just substituted out the radius and mass of the JumboMax as a ratio of the Tour Velvet's mass and radius. This allows me to cancel out the mass and radius and get a ratio for the force. If you need 100 (force units of your choice) to achieve a certain rotational acceleration, you will need 137 (force units of your choice).  There was another thread on the forum about offset, where it basically just delays closure by some stupidly small amount. A lot of fun math there.  Most golfers have to go from about 90 degrees open clubface at A4 to square at A7. So, having a grip that requires more force to close that clubface might not be the best idea pending the golf swing.  A question is, since the clubface is open at A4, and square at A7. Does that mean you want most of the closure to happen from A4 to let say A6, and not A6 to A7, for better consistently (less timing at impact). Just a thought.
    • This reminds me of the old game Telephone, where someone tells a story to someone, that person tells it to the next person, and after a few re-tellings you see how badly mangled the story gets.  Most golfers learn the rules in a similar fashion, learning from someone who really doesn't know the rules themselves.  This isn't really helped by the fact that many golf professionals aren't all that knowledgeable about the rules.  In addition, most golfers have been told that the Rules are SO complicated and SO difficult to read that they never try to read for themselves. Now, having vented a bit, is there anything in particular you'd like to read?
