Yes, neither terribly socially conservative either.  Not sure what his strategy will be, that or a hard-core conservative to balance the perception that he isn't.  

I don't believe Trump needs to look for a geographical partner because he, himself is so ubiquitous throughout all regions of the country.  I know he really, really wants to win NY in the general and Rudy just may help him make that happen.  Will be interesting to see what happens.

My compliments and admiration for your cogent, thoughtful commentary on the state of our union.  I agree with every word.

Is there anything that happened in this election that Trump isn't personally responsible for?  Did Trump kill Scalia so the senatorial candidates would have to take sides and make themselves look petty?

Someone on Fox this AM was predicting his choice will come from the remaining candidates. Both Kasich and Rubio were mentioned but someone with a brain chimed in Trump and Rubio are policy polar opposites. Not that Trump has disclosed what his intentions actually are others than grab grab grab.

Seems that Trump probably thinks leadership on the economy is his strong suit, so I wouldn't expect Rand. I'd expect someone with FP credentials. Petraeus, anyone?

although that would nullify any attacks against Hillary about her handling of classified info.

As an unaffiliated and undecided voter I also think it would be a sound choice. At this point I think Trump has a long way to go before he needs to worry about it, despite @Braivo attempts to convince me otherwise :).

Rubio's camp seems to be making a media plea for Carson and Kasich to bow out hoping his numbers will come up. I think Rubio's problems run deeper than low polls. He is exactly the stuck in the mud establishment people are expressing a distaste for. I had a different opinion a few days ago but his people sound desperate when interviewed. The parallel one guy tried to make between Trump and Obama was absurd.

I can't vote for a guy (Rubio) who basically refuses to do the job people elected him to do so he could run for POTUS. Rubio either doesn't care about being Senator or doesn't want a voting history to be used against him in the future, in either case both reasons are unacceptable.  

Of those remaining, Rubio is at the bottom of my list, I wish he and Carson would drop out so Kasich and Cruz can battle it out with Trump.

Ha, thanks. I've become more and more skeptical of federal power over the years, as you can tell by my occasional rants. I'll blame Rush and Neal Peart. I remember writing the lyrics for "The Trees" down to analyze for my English class. (http://songmeanings.com/songs/view/3458764513820543130/). Today I look at Obama/Clinton/Sanders as the folks handling the hatchets, axes, and saws at the end.

My main objection to large powerful entities is the idea that competition somewhat keeps us "honest," (not perfect I know!) whereas monopolies (or any centralized power) lends itself to corruption or cronyism. I think that's true whether or not it's a government entity or a private enterprise or as Bernie Sanders says, on Wall Street. I distrust anytime people can get away with a lack of transparency- it's in our nature as humans.

This vid above covers what I think is fair to say happens when a central government starts getting too much spending power.

And to be honest,  I'm not clear that Donald Trump is someone who is untainted with this crony-ism. He was certainly a beneficiary of crony relationships, and he gleefully admits it. Will he be a crony capitalist in power? I'd be surprised if there were not a scandal or two ahead, to be honest.

But where Bernie Sanders loses me when he seems to disregard the possibility that the people in government are not somehow magically imbued with impeccable character, as opposed to those evil people on Wall Street. Isn't it simpler to believe that we all have tendencies to get corrupt, and the best thing to do is to keep power distributed to as many people as possible. The more power someone has, the more chance for abuse.

So that all kinda points me in the direction of limited Constitutional government, which isn't perfect, but at least it provides some sort of limit that is documented and enforceable. If we keep drifting down the path of doing whatever the federal government seems to think is a good idea, I don't see any limiting principle there, and it will all get out of hand. For every federal rule, there is some loss in freedom, which saddens me.

That's where Rand Paul appeals to me as VP, although I have various disagreements with his firebrand style of libertarianism quite often too. 

And re: Ted Nugent, I keep expecting him to be involved in some FBI ranch standoff, where he goes down in a blaze of anti-government glory. That might impact his VP duties. He starts with ideas similar to mine, but takes them to an exponential level that seems a tad unhealthy.

I keep thinking Fiorina might be a bulldog as VP against Clinton, even if Trump didn't like her face.
