Arnold Palmer's passing (and corresponding in memoriam montage) threw off the planned announcement of the remaining U.S. captain's pick, but it is Ryan Moore, as it should be after today's performance.

That was the right pick, Moore makes us a better team.

Agree. I think Moore is both playing well and carries decent match play chops. Very good pick.

More importantly, the strengths of his game are well-suited to alternate shot play, and the U.S. failed to win a foursomes match st Gleneagles two years ago.

Moore? :-P

He did play well. But he did take forever to read putts.

Moore proved he is capable in his match play against McIlroy.  He may have lost and doesn't have the length, but he made Rory make the putt to beat him.

Unfortunately Chappell couldn't handle the pressure, I feel bad for him, but he lost his stroke when it counted.

Moore seems to be very steady and has been very consistent through the playoffs. It would be nice if he was a bit longer, but he's very good on proximity to the hole and putting, scoring well on par 4 and 3's. U.S. already had lots of strong par 5 guys.

I think Chappell was more about reverting to his average putting (which is poor) than losing his putting stroke.

Hello All. Long time reader but my increasing excitement ahead of Friday made me decide to take the plunge and sign up.

Just interested to to know what foursome pairings you think Clarke and Love will go with on Friday morning. Going to guess Clarke may go:

Rose/Stenson (and play Spieth/Rose which would get us started nicely!)

Kaymer/Mcilroy

Westwood/Fitzpatrick

Garcia/Cabrera-Bello

I think he'll then get the other four rookies out in the afternoon as long as they've started okay. Anybody up for a guess at what either captain will do?

Here's my prediction for the morning foursomes pairings:

Walker/Fowler, Spieth/Reed, Mickelson/Z.Johnson, D.Johnson/Moore

Europe:

Stenson/Rose, Westwood/Willett, Garcia/McIlroy, Kaymer/Pieters

Let's see if I get even one pairing right! :)

Welcome to the Sand Trap! Not sure on the pairings. But I think the best part of the Ryder Cup is the alternate format matches. We don't get to see that a lot.

Thanks! Agree about the foursomes and think it makes better TV as well as can be easy to lose track of a hole when there's four balls in play. Think for Europe to win they will need to go really strong in the foursomes again.

Lol Chamblee handing Nobilo and Duval their ass on live right now. Chamblee laying blame for poor performance on the players, Duval stuttering trying to defend the leaders of the past American teams that have lost 8 of the last 10 cups by alluding to lucky bounces, captains, etc. Give me a break.

It drops a lot, around halve I guess. If we also take Rose, Stenson and McIlroy away it drops even further. It's nothing more than just some interesting stats.

We obviously saw this differently.  I think Chamblee came off looking like the fool.  Chamblee was laying all the blame on Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, Duval was saying that it came down to the play of all--including himself.  Duvall was also explaining that matches can come down to something as unexpected as holing out from 30 yards from heavy rough.

    • If he had to hit over the bunker, I'm guessing he was further from the hole, although "in front of" implies the opposite.  If that's right, that may have been the right spot for penalty relief, a single PS.
    • Day 52. Trying to work on hard pan lie pitching in the rain in the yard.
    • Did you look up any Rules before posting here? What did you learn or find? You don't get to drop (or place) closer to the hole. 16.1(c) deals with relief for Abnormal Course Conditions in bunkers. You're granted free relief for: Since you say the bunker was basically entirely full of water, you likely wouldn't get complete relief, so for free (no penalty strokes), you are entitled to "maximum available" relief. If there's a spot in the back of the bunker away from the hole where the water is the shallowest, then you can drop there. If you don't like any of those options, you can take a penalty stroke and drop out of the bunker, behind it: You seem to have played from a wrong place (nearer to the hole) and thus likely should be penalized two strokes. It doesn't sound like a serious breach, at least.
    • I feel that the stock grips on my Wilson D9's are a little thin.  The grips on my other clubs (purchased used online and sold by me a couple months ago) were Golf Pride and they looked like the wrapped version.  I will say they felt like they had a little more cushion.  I don't have particularly large hands.  Did the grips on my other clubs have more tape or was just a better feeling softer grip?  I have no idea.  Well, any brands you would recommend that have a softer feel?
    • So this situation happened. A bunker in front of the green was full of water. My ball was underwater in the very back of the bunker furthest from the green. There was a small patch on the front upslope of the bunker nearest the green that theoretically could have been used to hit from if the ball was placed.  A drop would just roll back into the water. And this was the only part of the bunker you might be able to get a stance without standing in water. So my question is do you hit from that small front slope even though you would have to move the ball 6-7 closer to the pin? Or do you drop outside the bunker making sure you are no closer to the pin? I dropped in front of the bunker, so I had to chip over the whole bunker. Was this the right call? Also could I have moved it latterly outside the bunker, although this wouldn’t have made much difference as my ball was pretty much as far back in the bunker as you could be away from the hole.
