A lot of publications like the NE do this to plant a seed. They find a connection and they throw out a story. Then you see if the seed grows. Other media agencies then dig deeper, throw out dollar signs and find out if it's true. If it is, the NE gets credit. Like I said from the start, if this really did happen, it will come out from a much more reliable source. But if it didn't, it will die. If I had to put a guess on it, even though Tigers got a bad past, I just can't see him going this far to do this to Jason. I feel there may have been some flirting and texting between Amanda and Tiger and prolly others, but nothing more. I just don't think you stoop that low. This isn't lifetime TV.

In this case she was married to a professional golfer pulling in his star power to get 10000 times more viewers. Otherwise she would just be a cute chick with fake boobies only known by a small following. The fact that a large component of single golfers would love to have her in the sack makes her possibly interesting to Tiger. Maybe she has Tiger's cell and was trying to position herself into Tiger's stable. Knowing he was taking trips and showing up on her own accord to position herself for an opportunity. This really is not a far off possibility for someone who is trying to maintain a certain life for herself.

No.  Being a public figure is not a defense against a libel action.  It does require a higher degree of proof -- the celebrity must prove knowledge of falsity or reckless disregard of whether a statement is true or false.  The NE would not publish this if it made the story up or did not receive some reasonably believable information supporting it.

Here's what it says regarding public figures and public officials:

I agree with you that they would not publish if they did not receive some believable information. They definintely have something. I personally don't think they have the full proof, but they have enough to make a story out of it and plant a seed. Now other media outlets will follow up and do more digging and offer up money to those in the know to try and get the true story.
