He's from Málaga, Andalusia.

Well, that's what I get for talking out of my ass. (LOL ... looked it up on a map and not only is Malaga not Barcelona, it's about as far away from Barcelona as you can be and still be in Spain.  He's more Morrocan than Barcelonian)  What a dumbass.

OHW-ST-HOW-ZEN

Pronounced as it should be from it's 'Lowlands' origin.. stayed pretty well the same in Afrikaans.. as you say accent on first syllable, slightly on second .. I haven't heard a commentator anywhere apart from Dutch ones pronounce it correctly.

I don't know why commentators aren't instructed in how to pronounce names properly, after all that's their JOB.

Completely agree.  I've always wondered this.  Just go ask the guy if you're not sure.

So the players were in a smash the glass competition at St. Andrews. Gary Woodland almost took out Spieth. Good thing he wasn't in his downswing ;)

Oosthuizen has actually said his name is supposed to pronounced WEST-hi-zen. He has said he's fine with the way people pronounce it now, though.

A lot of people seemed to take an easy cheap shot at DJ after the U.S. Open 72nd hole, claiming he was a poor putter. If you watched him at all this week and still think he's a poor putter, you're out of your damn mind. Dude can blast it off the tee and putt lights out.

It has nothing to do with what he did in the open.. He is 125th in strokes gained putting.. That's reality..

He's also 2nd on tour in putts per hole. That's reality.

Did I hear something about Adam Scott running late for his tee time this morning?  Just caught a blurb of it this morning but may have mis-heard.

Doesn't that mean he has a pretty good short game allowing him to 1 putt often because he is getting it next to the hole? There has to be a reason for the disparity between being 125th in strokes gained and number of putts.. Isn't that the reason putts per hole stat was basically sidelined by the strokes gained stat because the first isn't as good a measuring stick as the second?

I would like to see DJ redeem himself with a win this week.

Johnson has the opportunity with the winds down to really destroy the loop today and separate himself some. His putting doesn't have to be spectacular this week....he keeps bombing it down the middle every hole, he could rout the field. You just get the sense DJ is about to explode here.

That stat tells you nothing about how good a putter he is. Strokes gained putting is the best putting statistic.

Terrible stat. A golfer could miss every green in regulation and get up and down for par 18 times and he would have 1.0 putts per hole.

Who cares about stats....the putts are going in this week. And the way he's driving it, he may be keeping Jordan from getting the Slam. He hasn't even hit the loop yet. He'll tear that apart.

    • A 5400 yd course is not that short for gents driving it 160 yards considering the approach shot lengths they are going to be faced with on Par 4s.  Also, for the course you are referring to I estimate the Par 4s have to average longer than 260 yds, because the Par 5s are 800 yds or so, and if there are four Par 3s averaging 130 the total is 1320 yds.  This leaves 4080 yds remaining for 12 Par 4s.  That is an average of 340 per hole. Anyway, if there are super seniors driving it only 160ish and breaking 80 consistently, they must be elite/exceptional in other aspects of their games.  I play a lot of golf with 65-75 yr old seniors on a 5400 yd course.  They all drive it 180-200 or so, but many are slicers and poor iron players.  None can break 80. I am 66 and drive it 200 yds.  My average score is 76.  On that course my average approach shot on Par 4s is 125 yds.  The ten Par 4s average 313 yds.  By that comparison the 160 yd driver of the ball would have 165 left when attempting GIR on those holes.
    • I don't think you can snag lpga.golf without the actual LPGA having a reasonable claim to it. You can find a ton of articles of things like this, but basically: 5 Domain Name Battles of the Early Web At the dawn of the world wide web, early adopters were scooping up domain names like crazy. Which led to quite a few battles over everything from MTV.com You could buy it, though, and hope the LPGA will give you a thousand bucks for it, or tickets to an event, or something like that. It'd certainly be cheaper than suing you to get it back, even though they'd likely win. As for whether women and golfers can learn that ".golf" is a valid domain, I think that's up to you knowing your audience. My daughter has natalie.golf and I have erik.golf.
    • That's a great spring/summer of trips! I'll be in Pinehurst in March, playing Pinehurst No. 2, No. 10, Tobacco Road, and The Cradle.
    • April 2025 - Pinehurst, playing Mid Pines and Southern Pines + 3 other courses. Probably Talamore, Mid-South, and one other.  July 2025 - Bandon Dunes, just me and my dad.
