My Shadow is killing me!!!!!

with in the last 4 weeks I have begun having an issue. Anytime the sun is at my back and my shadow is cast either over the ball or in front it has created a distractions.
During my back swing I have begun looking at my shadow and when I get to the top of my swing or the begining of the my foloow through a little voice screams "WRONG", and I end up not making good contact.

I know this is a foolish issue, but how do you get the voice out and how do you not let your shadow mess you up?

I find it so distracting I may have to start playing courses that face away from the sun.

It can. But you can also use it as a guide. Sometimes I use my peripheral vision to check that my hips don't slide back. Try it at the range. You may find it helpful in the future.

I do exactly what @boogielicious stated above.   I check my swing form by looking at my shadow.   Ditto for shadows on putting line.   I just pick a spot of the shadow as my target line.   Sort of making a lemonade out of lemon ...

I have found this to be a problem too. I know it's totally mental and kind of dumb. But I even catch myself thinking when I'm walking to a tee box which direction the sun is to see if my shadow will be over the ball. My plan is to practice when the shadow is over the ball a bunch  and just work to hit plenty of good shots with this being the case and just do my best to forget about it.

Oh boy. I play in the sun 99% of the time, and my shadow has never been a distraction for me. Well over 300 days of sunshine out here. I guess up til now my focus has over powered the shadow.

I say "up til now" because the OP mentioned it, and  I will be looking for my shadow next time out. :-D 

Earlier today I had a short chip where the early morning shadow from the flag stick lined up perfectly between the ball and the hole. Didn't need my putter on that hole. :-)

Bowling alleys are lit, pool halls, too. Same problem with tennis. Even if you jumped off a cliff, you'd have to wait for a cloudy day. What do you do about trees, water hazards, sand traps, the beer girl's mocking laughter, etc.? (Do you eat a lot of soy?) Think of it this way, there are people all over the world dying of dreadful diseases, children dying of dreadful diseases and all their parents can do Is watch, hopelessly. There are people trapped in the middle of horrible civil wars with their loved ones getting killed, no food, iffy water supplies, etc., so if you see your shadow, and he/she's playing golf, you should probably get over that. Feel better?

I, like some others, use my shadow as a tool during my practice swing.  Never bothers me once I'm over the ball.

I sympathize. I am a total mental case like that. Things that bother me or distract me :

*The logo of a golf ball pointing in a weird direction as it lays on the fairway.

*My shadow

*How the club sits on the ground sometimes looks weird...lol.

*The Marshall, seating with in my line of sight waiting for me to hit.

It is actually a miracle that I can swing the club, let a lone make contact with the ball..haha.

This is me too. I don't think I've ever noticed my shadow either, except when it covers the hole during putting.

      I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

      Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
