Pure grips...slippery?

I find the grips are tackier in the summer. Which makes sense since rubber tends to get harder in cooler temperatures. I love these grips, best grips I've ever had. I've had some serious range time with them and they are still great.

So I ended up having to wear a glove this weekend to hold on to them. I also played horribly. Its a weird feeling when your swing thought includes "the club is slipping at the top of my back swing".

I'm going to email Pure and see what they say. Club championship is in 3 weeks...so not exactly good timing.

I've been trying to decide which way to go when I replace grips on my clubs. I looked at pure and some lamkin grips. Both in midsize but the lamkin were just a little over 1/2 the price. If they last longer than the lamkins though I'd have no problem paying the extra per grip.

I received the replacement grips as promised on Saturday but I didn't get them installed until last night.

I played yesterday with the old ones.  The temps were in the mid-80's and I would say it was moderately humid.  The grips weren't noticeably slick and I never had to dry them off.

I tried the new grips out today.  It was right around 90 degrees and higher humidity.  I had to wipe the grips down a few times, which is fine and to be expected, but there were still times were I really felt like the grip was slipping between by thumb and forefinger of my right hand at the top of my back swing.  Even on chips and pitches I felt the club was going to twist in my hands at times.  Overall I don't think there was much difference between old and new unfortunately.

I have Dri-Tac grips on my driver and 3 wood and those were both perfectly tacky without ever needing to be wiped down.  I know the durability kind of sucks with the Dri-Tacs, and that's partly why I wanted to try PURE, but I'm starting to feel like the PURE performance in high humidity is a deal-breaker.

I'm trying to understand how so many people can say the PURE's stay tacky in hot and humid weather.  They seem to get more slippery than most stock grips I've tried.  I have a hard time believing it gets that much more humid here in southeastern NH than other places. I will probably give them the rest of the season and depending how it goes I might go back to Dri-Tacs.

I'll be getting new clubs before the next season in the spring, so if they send me another set and they don't work out like yours, I'll pray for low humidity til the season is over lol

I am into my second year with Pure midsize wraps and they are still better than the grips they replaced. I have found them to be very tacky and durable. I have never had one twist on a club.

I don't know what to tell you. My PURE grips stay absolutely tacky in hot humid weather, no wiping down. The only time they get slick is when it's actually raining.

It could be different chemistry - some of us sweat more than others.

I have no problem with Pure, Lamkin UTx or Wrap-Techs on the course. It's the hot range time where my hands turn to sweaty goo that will cause any grip to fail.

Question for OP: Have you tried wristbands? I find they are effective so sweat does not pour from forearms and wrists to hands. Are your grips the right size? They can slip more if too small.

Oddly enough, I didn't have any major problems when playing in the rain. Maybe it's partly an issue of expectations in my case. Also, I always walk, so I probably sweat a lot more than those who ride on really hot days. All in all, they're still great grips in a lot of ways, they might just not be for me when it comes hot weather.

Lol that's so weird! Not sure if this appeals to you, but I've heard of people applying anti-perspirant to their palms to keeps from sweating. My mom has done it.

So I just got off the phone with Alvin (Director of Sales for Pure) and he explained that the rise in humidity might be the issue. He said that Pure grips have the most rubber in them, and that I need to try and keep them dry. He offered to send me a new set of grips but I said to hold off until I get a few more rounds on them.

I'm going to try some baby powder to keep my hands dry and if I have to go back to wearing a glove I will. Not a big problem.

Funny that i found this thread as i have had the exact same issues with my new Pure Grips. I don't wear gloves when playing and was absolutley dissapointed when I first played these. Hot and humid in Houston of course and these slipped the first time i tried them. I tried wiping down before each swing to no avail. I know use the "Tommy Two Glove" approach with rain gloves and it is fine. I played two rounds with them and then took them off and went back to Golfpride half cords. It's nice that i use air to put grips on and off so it was not a big deal to change out and to save the grips. if anyone is interested ive got 2 sets for sale one midsize and one regular

baby powder might make it worse once it gets embedded in the rubber. I feel for you because my hands sweat a lot. Try wiping with Gripes. I've switched to the New Decade Multicompound BC I didn't want to be Tommy 2 Gloves

I would look into the DTX version of Pure Grips. they have a bit more texture that helps out.

My first experience with Pure grips has been above expectations, they have played well with no visible wear after twenty plus rounds.

I'll wipe them with a damp cloth for most swings, sometimes I'll use a dry towel.

On humid days, I'll wash my hands with soap before playing and also at each restroom on the course.

Getting the perspiration off the hands and wrists helps my grip on humid days.

I really like the Pure grips and my experience using them has been very good.

At our club we do a lot of sales and installs of Pure grips.  I am a firm believer in the brand and their grip.  We noticed at the very beginning that  they came with a film type substance on them.  Once we took that off with a good scrubbing with a damp towel there was no longer a problem.  I have had the P2 wraps (in blue) on my clubs for about a year now and they still feel good as new.  Everyone has different feel they are looking for, but these grips feel incredible to me!

Thanks for the input. I wonder if it is a mold release agent that they use. I have the DTX and did not feel any issue with them at first use.
