So my Saturday group keeps stats for everything and he put together a report of since the group started. My father in law for instance has played 230 rounds with this group in the 4 years he has lived in Florida. He has played a bunch of rounds outside the group but that got me thinking about myself. I have been playing golf for about 20 years and before this year, I would guess I only averaged 5 rounds a year. That's 100 rounds in my life, that got me thinking of how young my golf game really is. I have played 15 rounds since moving to FL 4 months ago and that is going to keep going up. It got me thinking of how much golf do you guys really play a year?

On average, I play once per week, as long as the weather permits (anything over 40 degrees is fine with me).

The past couple years, I've had month-long "lay-offs", though...so only about 20 rounds per year.  If work cooperates next year, and I get a full season, it'd be in the 30+ range.

Really good observation....I played 178 rounds of golf in 6 months last year and I was just getting to the point where I was really starting to play some really good and consistent golf.  I was at the course for 8 hours a day and it really opened my eyes to just how many reps I needed to put in to make the game seem easier.  I am not back Iraq and so I  have only played about 10 times this year but if you want to be good...you have to play a lot and there is just know way around that in my opinion.

60 ish times per year avg over the last 3 years. Except this year. I'll be around 40-45. Keep in mind I live in the Canada eh. The record at my club is 224 18 hole rounds in one season. That's a April - October season

Now that I moved to Florida and made improving my golf game a priority, I could see myself getting to 40 rounds / year. I won't be able to play as much in the winter as I would like because of crowds and cost. I still have 2 young kids and a budget to keep in mind.

since I retired 6 years ago when I moved to Houston. Since moving here I play basically everyday. I average 330 round per year and this year my goal is 365 with I am on track with 246 rounds ytd. I haven't got tired of it yet. I think I'm addicted

I try to play at least once every week. But my work and travel prevents me from achieving that goal. I would guess about 40 round per year is a good one for me. Typically, I would guess 20-30 per year.

I have always started my new golf season on October 1st. No particular reason other than to look back, and  just tell myself it's a new season to try to improve. I play year around. Some weeks I might play  4-5 times.  Other weeks I might have something else going on that is not golf related. I don't have an exact number, but I figure it probably averages out somewhere between 2-3 times a week. At 2.5 rounds a week that's 130 rounds a year. When I  was younger 200 rounds was close to normal for me. Of course this does not include any practicing I do between rounds.  After it's all said and done, I probably (on average) spend about 15+/- hours a week fooling around with this game/sport. Each round I play, 95% of the time, is usually 4 miles of walking, so there's 500+/- miles a year. If not for other things going on in my life, I would probably turn into full fledged, incurable, golf junkie.

When I lived in Jacksonville, FL I averaged 115 rounds a year for 3 years.

Last year IN New Jersey I played 35 rounds

So far this year in Arkansas I have played 42 rounds and expect to play a minimum 20 more.

Living in short-seasoned Sweden, I do my best to play as much as possible, this and last year has been around 50-60 rounds.

I play around 125-150 rounds a year. For three years my wife worked at a golf course in the pro shop. I had a membership at the course that allowed me to play unlimited golf. Those three years I played almost every day. I ended up playing almost 1000 rounds during that three year period. I also had unlimited golf balls on the driving range which I used at least once a day some days more. That was twenty years ago, I doubt I could play that much today much less practice as well. I also helped out by picking up the balls on the driving range those days she worked as well. The course was owned by the members and we all pitched in and helped around the course. I took care of the tee boxes fixing divots and moving the the tee markers 2-3 times a week. We also punched and sanded the greens as a group twice a year.

    • Better stuff today.  Backswing mapping, watching the club go back to where I want it, pause and feel the position, take it back to address, and repeat while looking at the ball.  Some feels I am playing around with.  1) Feeling like my right hand is pushing out away from me to keep the right arm extended. Really actively resist the momentum of the swing to collapse the right arm. I can't do this early because I will just push my hands outward. It's like A2.5 to A3.5.  2) Feeling a bit less flex in the left wrist at A3. I can't do this much or I will just roll the club inside. I caught myself doing this a few times and stopped.  3) Like above, feeling the overall body position at A3. I ideally want my swing to be A3.5 in length. Downswing, I got to really feel the pause again.  I also was doing some downswings while looking at the club at A3-A4 just to make sure it was going down and not out. I kind-of can hit the ball flush while not even looking at the ball. 🤣 Yea, trying to disconnect the hands down and tilting back to lower the club is difficult.  Also, even if I get my hands down better, I end up hitting straight hooks or flipping straight cuts. The club doesn't come in flush a lot. I definitely feel a flip at the ball the ball most of the time.
    • Day 4 March 15th, 2025 hit about 20 golf balls, a lot of non-hitting practice. Backswing length to A3 feels, downswing stuff.
    • Take this with a grain of salt but, when I see high speed/high leverage freewheeling swings like yours (from your swing video), it makes me think that considering the combo of outward and downward pressure required, you might not be applying sufficient downward pressure through impact. Tendency is more out than down. A good analogy is keeping an inflated ball pushed down underwater in a pool. I think it is the hardest force/pressure component to master.  It's a guess. I also think back pain is a symptom, theoretically speaking.
    • Heron Ridge in Virginia Beach yesterday, hole #7 for those in the area.  Would this box be considered an immovable obstruction with free relief?  (It was in my back swing as the hole was to the left of my ball in the picture.)  You can see that it sits just off the cart path.  How about all the mud and tire tracks?  When I addressed the ball my feet were sinking in wet mud so I took relief for standing water.  Right or wrong?  Thoughts?
