So, after reading the Folks on this Twitter poll (Driver longer/more accurate) are loco thread, I voted in the Twitter poll and then poked around the Twitter feed of guy who started the Twitter poll and came across an article he wrote about a subject that I had never given much thought to; namely, What Can Your Driver Tell You?

One of the things I found interesting was the pictures of a driver that he posted in the article and how similar they looked to mine.  If his suggestion is true, it might validate for me that I have a steep angle of attach and would explain why I have such a low ball flight with my driver, woods, and hybrid.  I suppose the only true way to figure out what my angle of attack is with the driver is with a launch monitor but that's probably not happening anytime soon.

Anyway, I am curious what people's thoughts about this are and if they think he's pretty spot on with the article or they think it's a lot of a hogwash.

Here are my driver pics.  Not the best because they were taken indoors at night with the light on but I think they suffice.

Might depend on the driver but yeah I agree with the article that a wear pattern like that would probably indicate a steep AoA.

My driver normally tells me to "go forth and multiply" and use the 3 wood instead. We fell out earlier this year so i may have to think about finding a new "friend"

My marks seem to be towards the sole of the driver on the toe side. Driver isnt my strong club!

You really need to get on a launch monitor. I thought I was still steep, but a recent test showed my angle of attack at +1-2 degrees. I've spent a lot of time working on shallowing my swing, so I guess it paid off. I don't think I am flipping either, because this has not been mentioned by my Evolvr instructor.

Since a lot of drivers today have black faces it is easy to see the ball mark on your last hit. This will tell me where I hit the ball on the face. After I check it I always wipe off the last mark so next time I can check out the new ball mark. I am looking to see middle of the club contact. My misses are usually center contact and I sometimes miss up and down but rarely heel/toe.

With my driver, I don't have to look at the mark.   The sound tells me if I hit toe, hill, low, high, or solid.  I think this is the case for many of us.

I have found it depends on the type of ball I am playing. Pro V's and Bridgestone B-330's don't show up very well but something like the Bridgestone E7 does.

With 5 to choose from, I don't hit one driver long enough to get any wear marks on them. That and I clean the balls before using any driver.

Have not played a round where I haven't gotten some mud on my driver, unfortunately. Tells me to give it a bath.

We must have a similar driver. Mine sometimes tells me to leave it alone and use my 3W.

Thanks for reminding me to go back and watch that/those. Either way you can't go wrong IMO.

the foot spray shows misses toward the heel so the driver is telling me to to stop swaying and post up on the left leg instead to get rid of that big push. Then instead of posting I sway back and stay there and hit it toe side double cross hook. It keeps telling, I'm just not listening

Yeah, I'm not too keen on the idea of paying $50-$100 to go to someone with a launch monitor to just to see my AoA.  I figure video will tell me if I'm hitting up or not.  It somewhat was also reinforced because when I went for a fitting for the Titleist hybrid's last weekend, they told me that the H2 was better for me than the H1 and from what I've read, the H2 is more for people that have a steeper AoA and the H1 is for people who sweep the ball.  I maybe mixing apples and oranges discussing driver swings and hybrid swings, but I imagine if I'm steep with my AoA on my hybrid, generally speaking, that will mean that overall my AoA is pretty steep.

Get some Dr. Scholl's Foot Spray. Spray it on the face of your driver before you hit it at the range. It's like impact tape. It'll help you work on hitting that sweet spot.

Every driver has a sweet spot - Callaway drivers have a sweet spot that's just above center.
