I won a set from my club.  I am not a consistent ball striker.  I am not sure playing these would be a good plan.  Anyone have any thoughts and experience on off center strikes.

I haven't tried the current iteration but AP2s are  generally forgiving. What kind of irons do you currently keep in the bag?

Nice!  Congrats!

Great irons.  Not super forgiving but absolutely not blade-like either.  At yr hcp I wouldn't expect you to have a real problem with them as long as you don't prefer a larger club head.   Does yr club have a fitter?  They might have a demo set you could hit.....

Congratz! They are more forgiving than previously according to Titleist. If you get a choice of a shaft that fits you and your length and lie, it would be ideal.

I am not a good ball striker and use what are probably less forgiving irons. What most people do, and I've done is bag the irons that you can consistently hit well. If it's 7-PW, so be it, and get a couple of hybrids to cover. You can improve the swing and speed to implement the longer irons. The new Titleist hybrids are handsome.

While I can hit a 5i and 6i decently now, I get more distance and height (and conistency) from a hybrid. In fact, my 28 Hybrid is my favorite club (at the moment). Hope that helps.

I've been playing the 714 AP2s. I think you will like them a lot. They are more forgiving than typical cavity backs and feel great with good contact. What shafts did you get?

I am playing game improvement irons.  The AP2's come with "Steel shafts".  Not sure which ones I'll guess whatever is standard.   I read I can have them bent so I guess I can have them fitted.

Congrats, I tested the 716 AP2's and they are pretty forgiving.  Given your handicap I think you'll really enjoy having them in you bag, just make sure the shaft is right for your swing (as others have mentioned).

Congratz!

(Sorry, I don't have any advice on whether you should game them or not).

Congrats, they're great irons and fairly forgiving "players" irons. Should be fine for an 11/12 handicapper.

I'm not a great ball striker by any means but I have been gaming the new ap2 irons and they are lovely. Such a great feel to them

i have a set, i wouldnt say they are very forgiving but im sure off 11 you will be fine. beautiful looking iron and feel like a blade too, but not as soft as most forged irons

The AP2s are great irons. I don't think that you're going to have any problems playing them at your handicap.

Did you win a specific set of irons your club had on the shelf, or will you get a custom fit? With topgrade irons from the AP2 family, it would be best if you could select the shaft (even if it's a slight upcharge).

They will be ordered so I can have them fit.

Congrats. You will be fine. I love my 714s. You might get a little more yawrdage though...

Congrats! With a fitting I believe you'll find these clubs very playable. After finding the proper shafts for my swing I am really enjoying the AP2's. Good luck.

    • Day 27 (7 Dec 25) - Got in a few swings with 9i and hard foam balls in backyard.  Setup weight fwd (rebuilt left foot really lets me feel the weight in a slightly painful way) - kept the backswing to around 9 o’clock focusing on contact and resulting divot pattern.  Like how the hard foam balls come off the face (almost like real balls in sound).  A good abbreviated session as I only able to hit about a dozen balls in the fading light.
    • Day 117 12-7 A bit of chipping practice today. Full swing- hit some real balls to see where Im at.
    • Not the part I was replying to: Handicaps did not go down much (like 0.14 on average IIRC?) when we went from 10/20*0.96 to 8/20. And a good chunk of that was from the +s.
    • I think he meant in the UK. The old system was completely different from the new one. 10/20 x 0.96 vs 8/20 would really only impact very low handicaps I think. The 0.96 serves to increase differentials for plus differentials, where 8/20 vs 10/20 works to lower differentials for all. I don't know many plus golfers who would be upset that their index got lower. A lot of really good players don't even really keep their handicaps up-to-date. They're much more interested in their WAGR rankings which get them entries to certain events.
    • Day 433 - 2025-12-07 Got some work in after Junior Elite before a night of sports (and the return of my wife!). Backswing work. Similar to what a lot of my juniors are doing.
