Going to Orlando in February and staying at Orange County National.  I've played the courses there several times, but haven't stayed there for a golf trip.  Flights to Orlando right now are ridiculously cheap, $75 dollars RT from Dulles.

I managed to get to Coeur D'Alene in July, played The Wynn in October and PGA West Stadium over Thanksgiving. I had an epic lineup of trips lined up to Pinehurst, Sand Valley and Bandon lined up for 2020 but we know what happened there. However, I do have Pinehurst and Bandon back on the docket for 2021 so we'll see if that holds. Its been a long time coming.

I need to play OR golf in general. With Bandon and a ton of courses around Bend, I really need to make a trip out there.

My yearly trip to Palm Springs in January is on hold right now, due to Covid concerns and California policies.  We may go later, if the situation improves.  After that, the next trip is likely to be to Wisconsin in June (or is it July?), to Sand Valley.

My January group to visit there is also postponed, but many if not all Palm Springs area golf courses are open.  Food and beverage isn't doing very good though, mostly outdoor sitting or closed.  However, three of us will be over there this weekend.

Yes, I had no issue in Palm Springs over Thanksgiving with tee times and such, I even walked on one course in the afternoon (though it was actually Thanksgiving Day). All dining was outside but I know that might have changed last week.

My next golf excursion won't be until the golf course restaurants, lodging and bars are open again.  And I don't have to wear this mask.  July?  Everyone please get vaccinated.

Understood, though I was traveling alone so it was easy to keep my distance. While the dining thing is a bit of a hassle the temperature for being outside was perfect. Also, the Monte Cristo at The Classic Club was outstanding. 🙂

I was thinking Pebble Beach again or Torrey Pines and staying at the lodge.  The heck with the Monte Cristo... I'm going for the Lagavulin after 18 holes.

We've always had good food at the courses, Classic Club is right up there, Desert Willow has good food, we even stayed for dinner at Rams Hill.

I had to postpone my trip in the spring to Pebble Beach. Going to try again in April. Hopefully. 😟

What is (was) your "in" to Cypress?

The course I belong to is highly ranked and can usually get us on most places.  Cypress is stubborn, you must play with a member.  No amount of reciprocal discussion worked where it usually does.  So my in did not work.

    • Day 51 (29 Apr 26) - Worked with a few of the golf team kids plus my grandson (he’s too young for the team as it’s middle-high school age and he’ll be 10 Sat).  He put on a small hitting clinic (hitting off the same tees as the rest of the boys) - one of the older kids called him a “coach”.  Worked in a few shots for myself - had the light bag: driver, 7w, 4 - 6 - 8 - Pw - Sw (DCI 962’s except the Sw a 981) and Zebra putter….got in some great tee shots, a couple of recovery and an awesome up and down for bogie: 55 yds out, hitting 4th shot due to 2nd getting tangled in limbs - see the window I need to hit for a tight spinner with the Sw - nail it to a postage letter distance from the cup for a tap in bogie….my kind of practice.
    • Day 21, April 29.  Before going to work this morning, I worked in my indoor practice room for 20 minutes.   This was entirely 6-iron shots with the usual step.  Video yesterday showed me that I'm still straightening my trail leg too much (leading to the backswing length issue I've been working to fix), so I focused on not doing that in my rehearsal swings.
    • Exactly correct.   I was absolutely certain about the penalty (none here), but the bit about where they play from can be really confusing the first time you read it.  In my big paper rule book, i used colored highlighters to make it clear.  Good thing I did, at the Cascades there's little to no cell service, so using the rules app on the phone wasnn't possible.
    • Taking a crack it, but looks pretty clear. 11.1  Ball in Motion Accidentally Hits Person or Outside Influence. a. No Penalty to Any Player If a player’s ball in motion accidentally hits any person (including the player) or outside influence: There is no penalty to any player. This is true even if the ball hits the player, the opponent or any other player or any of their caddies or equipment. Reading further down it looks like they have to play the ball as it lies. No replay from the previous spot.
    • I had an interesting one yesterday, a local qualifier for the US Senior Open, at the Cascades Course at the Homestead.  Well, first things first, the VSGA arrnged for the officials to play the Cascades on Monday at the players' practice round rate.  Its lots of fun, rather old-style (built in the 1920s).  anyway, a player missed a short putt, and (apparently embarrassed) took a step to be ready to tap the ball back in.  The ball lipped out, and hit the player's foot.  I was nearby, and they waved me over, and asked "What do we do now?"  I was pretty sure of the ruling, but asked them to wait for a few seconds while i double-checked.  I did have it correct, even though its one of the more confusing rules in the book right now.  I'll leave the correct answer out for now, in case anyone wants to guess, or research it, and post their ruling.
