DeChambeau & the Hat

  1. 1. On a scale of one (1) to ten (10), how do you feel about DeChambeau and the hat.

    • 1 - It doesn't bother me. If it bothers you, you're just a jealous 18 handicapper.
    • 4 - Who am I to judge? The guy is on a roll and golf needs more personality.
    • 7 - Not going to lie, it is a bit irritating, and I know all I need to know about DeChambeau from that hat.
    • 10 - I'd rather watch a Caitlyn Jenner documentary on re-run than see Dechambeau's hat one more GD time.

Maybe it's just me, but I watched DeChambeau at the NCAA championships and found myself constantly annoyed by him. Now he's resurfacing. I'm sure 90% of it was the hat. Maybe his swing. I'd be curious to get peoples feedback on the like-ability of this guy...

well the family names sound of a francophone origin so the beret is appropriate and probably a personal touch.

it could be a US navy seal thing though :)

I like that he's brainy and contrarian, but he's not on tour yet. Judging by his quotes in a recent press conference, which I haven't seen, so disclaimer, he shouldn't get ahead of himself, despite how bright his future looks. Don't have an opinion on his personality, but rooting for him mainly because of his swing.

I don't get it, is there a swastika on the back of the hat or something?  ;-)

You've gotta admit, it's pretty much a douche-bag hat. Only other professional golfer who wore one in the modern era was Payne Stewart, by most accounts a grade A douche-bag.

To be honest, I'm going to be somewhere between a 7 and a 10...That hat screams douchery. It bothers me because I'm a shallow and hateful man.

BTW I saw a guy at the FREAKING GYM the other day wearing a hat like that.

Pro golfers don't wear them because you can't put a big logo on the front to pay the bills.(pun intended)

Personally, I am not big on style affectations like the 'old school' hat, Rickie's 'hip' trucker hat, Patrick Reed's Tiger imitation, or Payne Stewart's plus knickerbockers.

What they wear doesn't distracts me from the quality of their golf or make me dislike them, though.

@colin007 re. the hat at the gym. Give a guy a break, I'm very self-conscious about my bald spot. Kudos for 'owning' your shallow hatefulness. :-P

He's only a physics major. They teach physics in high school! :-)

It doesn't bother me. The guys who don't wear hats because they still have all their hair bother me! :-D

OK, I got off topic. Hat doesn't bother me, just like Fowler's shoes don't.

    • Context:  I am on vacation, so I don't have access to my indoor practice room, and I won't for about a month. Day 12 (August 22).  Today's weather was not one where even I was going to be outside.  For whatever reason, I didn't do the putting drill today.  There was a drill I remembered from this site (the article was something akin to "five things you can do to improve that don't require talent") that involved having an iron along the back from stance, moving to backswing and holding, then moving to forward swing and holding.  So I did that for five minutes today. I also spent 90 minutes at the gym;  my main motivation for getting stronger is golf related (and I really should get back to Fit For Golf  specific workouts;  I'm not sure when I lost that habit, a poor choice on my part that I did).  Funny story, I spent 20 minutes on the Stairmaster today at the gym (the rest was weights and rests), a device I started with shortly after I took up golf because I read something about it in a Butch Harmon book.  I should be following FFG Mike's fitness advice though, not some memory of someone else.
    • Day 8 8-22 Worked on backswing length and getting some speed in backswing. Recorded swings. Was happy with practice session tonight.
    • Day 325 - 2025-08-22 Practiced for almost an hour after cleaning my cabinets to account for the new GEARS cameras and helping @OBlum for a bit. Exaggerating the same old things.
    • Yea, faster greens = shorter putting stroke. You can be more accurate.  Really, I think people who struggle with distance control struggle just as much on slow greens as fast greens. I've seen people blast putts 10-FT past the hole on 8 or 9 STIMP as much as 11-12 STIMP.  I prefer faster greens. Usually means the putting surface is better and again, shorter putting stroke.
