You're probably thinking of the Country Club at Brookline, where the composite course that is used in championship play includes both a short par 4 converted into a long par 3, as well as a short par 4 and par 3 combined to play as a long par 4.

I guess because the psychological threshold for a par is much higher than a bogey. A larger proportion of pros will consider and chose conservative play if played as a par 4 compared to a par 3 even if it is psychological. It will affect the average scoring on the hole guaranteed. I have no numbers to back this up but I am fairly certain that a 288 yard hole will have higher scoring average as a par 4 than as a par 3 simply because of that. In other words there will be more pars on the hole as a par 3 than there will be birdies as a par 4, not because of how the hole play but because how they choose to play it.

To clarify, an equivalent part 3 for as duffers would be about 225 to 230. It doesn't matter how much I suck. I will try to get on the green with a 2 hybrid. Period. Wedge game is far from automatic. As a par 4? There is more than 50% chance that I will play it as a two shotter. I can live with par any day no matter how easy a par 4 it is.

Am I the only one finding the announcers on Fox Sports 1 annoying already? Some of their comments really make me want to watch the coverage on mute...

He'll come back to the field, don't you worry. The golfing gods have it in hand. It's like cycling, the peloton usually reels the breakaway in. And it's usually a spectacular blow up hole. Don't mean to be down on Mr. Landry, but all this has happened before, and it will happen again.

Haven't had a problem, I saved my 5 and have looked at it a bunch now, they're still there.  I'm on an Android.
