Undercover Tour Pro doesn't sound like he's Secret Tour Pro.

Looking forward to new upstarts like Anonymous Tour Pro, Unnamed Tour Pro, Unknown Tour Pro. Hey, maybe they'll all be paired together at the Masters one day and we'll call them the faceless grouping.Β :-P

Yo, Undercover Tour Pro, "meet" GCTigerTracker.Β

These guys all sound boring though. I'm waiting for Ornery Tour Pro.

Unknown tour pro will be playing with a paper bag on his head...I am so dating myself with that comment...

Almost 13m made over his career ... so probably not. Β (Although, 13 million is "over 5 million" so it doesn't technically rule him out. ;))

Wow, Overton has made that much? Β Crazy. Β It's gotta be someone pretty well known since he's played in at least one Masters. Β I don't really care a lot, just thought I'd toss out a name. Β

Β

If you pay attention, I think you can Β figure out who Secret Tour Pro is......in fact I am sure a bunch of folks know who he is....not saying I do and not saying I don't of course

I don't pay that much attention, other than to say that if I had ascended that high in golf, I probably would have developed a fair amount of ego. Then again, it might be the ego I always had, only no one paid attention to it when I was ranked 2,000th in the world! Now that I'm on the PGA tour, suddenly I'm important, and I have a relatively unfiltered outlet to the world!

I liked the article.Β  I think it's how I would feel if I were on the pga tour.Β  Let's pretend, for a minute, that I had the game to make the tour.Β  I'm not super personable, not super good looking, etc.Β  There's no way, even in my wildest dreams, I'd be anything more than like 90th place on the money list.Β  That's actually what I fantasize about.Β  I don't want to be Rory.Β  I want to be that guy who you wouldn't even recognize if he was standing right next to you that earns a million bucks a year on the tour.Β  I want to be Adam Hadwin . .whoever that is, lol.Β  I thought it was a good, but small, insight into what it's like to be an "unknown" on the tour.Β

My assumption (not really based on anything) is that it's just sort of a fake amalgam of several different guys...I'm guessing they interview one or two pro's for each article, and then combine it into a single voice.Β  The details they drop in are specifically designedΒ just to get people guessing.

Β

Yup, that's kinda what I've always thought.

I read some article where the writer tried to figure out the identity based on various clues, and discovered that some contradicted each other.Β  So yeah, I tend to agree it's actually multiple people behind it.

It's my favorite article in GD, always an interesting read.

This one comes off as bitchy yes, but I think it's a fair complaint that the marquee players like Furyk get all sorts of leniency with slow play while the guys few know of get tagged all day long, because it's easy for the tour, and makes them look like they're trying to speed things up, glad it's out there and hopefully his words help the issue.

He is a Saints fan from the Archie Manning days???

Β

As to the larger issue. it is journalism, which doesn't seem to have much to do with truth or facts, these days. Β Big blocks of salt are the order of the day.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Sorry boys, but Saints fans were doing that long before the gong show was even a glimmer of an idea.

I believe the character is made up. Β It is a combination of all sorts of off the record stories and comments designed to entertain us and give us a glimpse, albeit a fictional one, of the "inside" of the PGA Tour.Β

It's this idea (that I think is probably right) that would keep me from spending too much time playing detective. :)

I agree. I was thinking amalgam character as well. Sounds like the top 20 are treated like corporate VPs and the lower ranked players are the workhorses in terms of the Pro-Ams. I suppose more than a few of those top players had to takeΒ their share of early morning Pro-Am tee times as they were coming up.

Very few in the world who wouldn't change places with any of them - just to be able to play golf that well - let alone the money and playing golf for a living.

The image of the 'suits' giving the assistant superintendent contradictory instructionsΒ was funny.

Not that this really matters, but the Saints fans did this for the first time in 1980 and it was actually an idea that came from the Gong Show's Unknown Comic.....below is from Wiki....

[In 1980], disgruntled fans called their team β€œthe Aints”, going so far as to show up to games wearing brown paper bags over their heads after their team was 0–12[3]Β and playingthe Los Angeles Rams, to whom they lost 27–7. In embarrassment they called themselves the Unknown Fan (a spinoff fromΒ The Unknown Comic) in a practice that would become the trademark of disgruntled fans across various sports in the United States. CoachΒ Dick NolanΒ was fired after this game,[3]

The guy is exactly right on what hes saying. In this world there seems to be far too many bosses telling others what to do.The story with the three guys and superintendent is far too common.I can also understand his complaints bout course setup as I play golf tour events and I see some of the same things but got to remind myself everybody else has to play it too.

had a little extra time today, and i'm guessing Sean O'Hair:

paired with a previous winner at his rookie masters - played w/ Vijay in 2008 at Augusta in the 3rd Rd, his first time at The Masters

over $5m earnings - currently at $19M+

played in the Players last year (and possibly in the water on 18! :) ) - played in The Players Championship in 2015, with a bogey on 18 in Round 2 (can't verify he was in the water)....missed cut

outside the top 30 - current FedEx rank of 95

**edit to add: he also WD from the ProAm during the 2010 AT&T National at Aronimink with a back injury, and then came back to play in the tournament w/ T11**
