What country is the most politically correct?

There is a saying we have over here, "when America sneezes Britain get's a cold". The U.S started to cater for the very oversensitive many years ago, and we got to here about it over here. Many people said that it couldn't happen in the UK, but I said, "just you watch". If we don't refer to people of colour using the correct term we get castigated and called racists. If we dare refer to people of different sexual orientation using the wrong term, or even consider deriding their habits, then we get called all sorts of names, and may even get arrested. Of course, some people over here think that's right, but in reality the VAST amount of us think it's crazy, and refer to people using the same words we used 30 years ago. I ask this question because a short while ago I told a golfing joke on this forum that was very funny, but not very PC. That said, it's a joke I would happily tell to a black person, and would expect them to find it as funny as I did. It's quite strange that in the UK it is perfectly acceptable to tell jokes about the Irish, but if you tell a joke about a gay or black person, it's frowned upon. Anyway, I got a short ban for that joke, and it got me thinking, what country is the most PC. I would say probably the U.S. but what about you ?

Christ, it's amazing I can pick the bloody thing up !!

I don't have enough information to hazard a guess.  

As with most ideas or movements, "political correctness" has it positive points as well as some who take it too far (e.g. the idea of microaggression).

I don't believe in any form of PC. That doesn't mean that people shouldn't be polite and courteous. For an example, I would never dream of calling a gay person a queer, but I wouldn't hesitate in referring to a gay person as a queer when speaking to a friend. If my friend was offended by the terminology, I would consider that would be his problem, and tell him not to be oversensitive. I should point out though,I don't have any such friends :-D

"Political correct" is another way of saying "treating people with respect."  Yes some people take it too far, but fundamentally, that's what it's about.

So lets see...

The idea of "political correctness" is somewhat subjective
Words are only bad when they are used with the intent to harm and disparage, otherwise they are just words!

When I call my friends a bad word he or she both know we are teasing one another based on stereotypes. It is done out of endearment and not hate!
When someone else calls them that name, they are doing so to put them down and maybe make themselves feel superior.
There is a difference, unless my friends object to the phrase

Otherwise the PC movement maybe overblown and an over reaction.
Are people really offended by someone not declaring "merry Christmas" on December 1st? Or is it just the media creating false outrage for a news story?
 

But IMHO the problem arises when people think that it is ok to refer to people by names that the group does not like: "Cracker", "Boy", "retard", etc......

In which case I would consider you are over sensitive, so I would give you no time in my world. The vast majority of people in the UK are like me, with a small minority of liberals who always manage to get their own way. Different strokes for different folks I suppose !!

Treating people with respect is subjective. I never abuse any minority group face to face, although I am happy to laugh about them when they are out of earshot. I live in a small village on the central east coast of the UK. The majority of people who live here come from the north, the rest is split between indigenous midland people and the southerners. We constantly barrack each other, and some of it is quite extreme. The result is a closer friendships, because we don't hold back and pretend to be something different than we are. Americans are quite different people, and this isn't an insult. Pop into a local bar in the states and take the piss of out of local and you may get shot, do it over here and you make a friend !!
