Light, less than stellar fields populated with a gang of guys from the Buy.com tour and other sub PGA tours. More of a chance to make the cut and play for 4 days. Heck, I never heard of the "Turkish Airlines" tourney before now

The Turkish Airline tourney is not that light a field at all. Last year won by Dubuisson. Rory 5th, Westwood, Willet, Lowry, Cabrera Bello, Fitzpatric, Pieters, Macdowell etc. in the field.

Unless he's found a way to maintain distance without the excessive stress he places on his back and knees he'll have to focus more on his mid - short game if he wants to win.

It's been said by a few around here, myself included, Tigs has plenty of distance without going all out. Watch him on the range and he just bombs it with that controlled, smooth, within himself range swing. He actually doesn't gain that much distance going crazy with that out of his shoes tourney swing. Seems like a mental thing, he can't just bring that range swing to the course.

You missed the point of that reply.

I don't "worship" Tiger Woods, but his haters love to throw that out there as a means of discrediting anyone for being even mildly interested in arguably (quite easily) the greatest player of all time teeing it up again.

Despite the fact that the "haters" are likely even more interested…

Its kinda like a lesser version of "the Howard Stern effect"

I like a couple golfers the most and I would say I have an equal amount that I don't like at all.  He is just in the middle for me.  I do not have a stake in the game like I do with watching Hockey.  When I watch golf, I just like to see good stories and good competition

I like Tiger, as do many others.  I wouldn't have even played this game if I hadn't grown up watching him play.  It was exciting to watch and really got me to want to check out golf.  You don't like Tiger, just like I don't like it when people add too much chipotle to a dish.  Move along.

If the guy can walk of the course after four rounds he should consider it a success. Golfers never really seem to dodge back problems. Once they get one, it seems like its with them for the rest of their careers.

It's always entertaining....funny even.  People who understand and accept that others like/dislike other sports teams than they do, get so wrapped up and defensive when it comes to El Tigre.

It's not defensive or wrapped up.  It just happens to be the topic of conversation.  If you smack talk my Seahawks, I'll reply back to that too.  Yeah we got rid of a great O-line to get Jimmy Graham last year and now we can't even get the ball to him.  Hurts more now we are Beast Mode-less.  Again, it's just on topic conversation.  I don't have any personal stakes with Tiger as I'm not a sponsor or anything.  I'm just a fan who started hitting a golf ball because he was a great golfer and inspired me to play.  Has he committed great sins and spoiled a legendary career?  Sure.  He's still Tiger Woods.  Arguably the best golfer ever and certainly the most influential/transcendent golfer ever.

ikr?

Ive never seen people so personally and emotionally invested in either defending or discrediting an athlete to the degree that they do with Tiger Woods. Its like his haters get offended when he makes a birdie or something, and his big time fans ignore all of faults as a competitor.

Jeez, I'm not a Tiger homer but even I wouldn't say he's spoiled his career.  Regardless his indiscretions, his career is and will forever remain legendary.  His injuries have had a far more significant impact on his overall place in the game than his behavior.

Hate to think how you'd characterize a team or player you don't like.

Maybe all this noise about his return is just a smokescreen to get up close to the European Ryder Cup team!

Yeah his career is legendary for sure.  I'm just saying he could have been the undisputed GOAT without the injuries and swing changes (his personal sins are exactly that-personal).  I wasn't clear on that point, sorry.

I dont hate him as much as I hate the way the analysts are all up his butt and nobody else matters. Golf is bigger than Tiger ever will be.Golf has been around long before him and will be after. Its sad that it takes Tiger Woods to get someone to play the game. Maybe its because I started playing long before Tiger showed up. Love the game not the player. Maybe its the media that caused me to dislike him.

The media has a habit of doing that with a lot of things. Think of songs you first liked then started to loathe because they are overplayed. I find that journalism, especially in sports, does the same thing. I just tune it out now.

    • It’s winter here and time hitting at my indoor place.  This year I bought and sold a few sets so I didn’t settle in on anything. For this coming season, starting now I have a choice to make.  What set would you guys use? 1.  Nike Vapor Pro irons - They are like new, hit them some last year before I had to demo other sets.  I love them, original grips, barely used so I’m almost not wanting to use them to keep their value up.  Standard LLL and standard grips. 2. Taylormade P7TW irons - Still in the box.  Got them over a year ago but had too much to hit, never used them.  Have used a set in the past and loved them.  Ended up with my own set custom fit to me -1/4”, 1 degree flat midsize grips.  These are probably not as valuable because they are still available and they are fit to me. I hate to put the Nikes away but it makes more sense to save them than the TW’s…. I dunno….
    • Day 215 (3 Dec 24) - Another very chilly day - opted to work on easy pitches in the backyard. Worked thru the irons and wedges - focused on foot position and tempo.
    • Yes. I believe in using the same ball all of the time, including chipping and putting practice. I use the orange Callaway Supersoft.  Only $25 per dozen, and sometimes on sale for $20.
    • A 5400 yd course is not that short for gents driving it 160 yards considering the approach shot lengths they are going to be faced with on Par 4s.  Also, for the course you are referring to I estimate the Par 4s have to average longer than 260 yds, because the Par 5s are 800 yds or so, and if there are four Par 3s averaging 130 the total is 1320 yds.  This leaves 4080 yds remaining for 12 Par 4s.  That is an average of 340 per hole. Anyway, if there are super seniors driving it only 160ish and breaking 80 consistently, they must be elite/exceptional in other aspects of their games.  I play a lot of golf with 65-75 yr old seniors on a 5400 yd course.  They all drive it 180-200 or so, but many are slicers and poor iron players.  None can break 80. I am 66 and drive it 200 yds.  My average score is 76.  On that course my average approach shot on Par 4s is 125 yds.  The ten Par 4s average 313 yds.  By that comparison the 160 yd driver of the ball would have 165 left when attempting GIR on those holes.
