Why doesn't Tiger use theΒ "TW" logo from his existing clothing line? Or, is that jointly owned as a trademark?

Product Details

Here's one of his hats.

Also, what's the status of Nike golf equipment?Β Will someone buy the line, or is it likely Nike will just shut it down and walk away?

(I have a year-old set of Vapor Speed irons which I don't use; resale value is ??)

To make a big splash like Jack, he needs to get busy in the course design business. I don't see a line of clubs unless he is paid to use the logo by an enterprising company.Β

The logo looks....painful, I guess is the first thing that comes to mind.

The sad part is, some person or firm probably was paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to come up with it.Β

Jack Nicklaus has his bear logo, Palmer, the multicolored umbrella. Woods has this? Can this be any more star chamberΒ corporate clinical and cold? What are those? Pine trees? Claws? Yeah, I read the description, I see the W, but that's what people are going to ask.

It's a bad logo. This is what he is expecting to put on apparel? It looks like a generic corporate logo from an investment company. Plus I can't get over how "TGR" is not the first initials of "Tiger Woods Ventures".

When I saw that "TGR", theΒ first thing I thought was "Teton Gravity Research" which is a skiing outfit.Β

HonestlyΒ when I first saw "TGR" I sounded it out phonetically in my head.

The wonderful thing about TGR is that TGR is the only oneΒ ;-)

Arrogance knows no bounds. Β

But, if you're richer than God,Β can no longer play, and want to try to stay relevant in the sport, I can see attraction of throwing a bunch of money at something like that, whether it's viable or not.

I have a feeling that TGR's comeback was aligned with this unveiling. It would have had a bigger splash if he would have played last week. As far as the logo looks, it is sharp. Sharp as in painful. It doesn't do anything for me and reminds me of a triple Transamerica logo.Β

I'm not trying to defend it, because I agree it seems pretty awful but just to play Devil's advocate here ...

What if you'd never heard of Adidas and somebody came out with a new shoe and the logo was just three slightly slanted lines. Β Wouldn't the reaction be fairly similar?

Same with Nike. Β Forget everything we know of Nike and just try to imagine a brand new company and their logo is just a white hook. Β Same question.

Is it the logo that makes the brand, or is it the brand that makes the logo? Β (I'm thinking it leans a lot more towards the latter)

This may be true to some extent, but there are still basic rules of graphic design that can make something appear "off".Β  In this case, I think the biggest problem is how spaced out the shapes are - they don't read like a single "logo" but a series of symbols.

How on earth is this an example of "arrogance"?

Jack Nicklaus has "Golden Bear Realty" and many other properties. Greg Norman has a bunch. Palmer. Even Billy Casper (a buffalo in his logo):Β http://www.billycaspergolf.comΒ .

You don't like Tiger. We know that. But how on earth is creating a company to consolidate all of your business dealings an example of "arrogance"? You do know the "G" in "TGR" doesn't stand for "God" or something, right?

Those logos are better, not because we know the brand name already, but because they're better.

I'm not a graphic designer, but I feel I have reasonably good taste, and logos should convey something to you while being modern with the times and just "feeling" right. Three skinny triangles… that doesn't say much of anything. The spacing feels awkward. Is the negative space the logo, or the positive space? It's confusing.

It's just a bad logo.

Yup.

John's an architect, so he knows better what makes a good logo than I do (or can put it into words better than I can). There are similar rules for buildings, too.

That doesn't mean the rules can't be broken, but they have to be done with a purpose or reason. This lacks that, too.

I never said that Nicklaus, Palmer, and Norman weren't arrogant either. Β A certain amount of that comes with the celebrity...

Okay… Or it's just a matter of "legally, we have to call it something."

What a gross logo. I've always thought the TW logo was pretty good (though not on a hat, for some reason). But this one's just awful.Β

The negative space forms a W, so I'm guessing that's what they went for.

    • First (12 holes) round in a year, maybe the third round in five years. After prioritizing family for a long time, I’m ready to play more golf. We moved back where I grew up and started playing golf. The course is close, but only six holes and pretty short, so the longest club I bring is a 4i. It is very undulated, with a lot of elevation changes and 4/6 greens are blind shots. The long game was relatively good (relative to my game and swing). Got things to work on, but the current state is manageable. One OB. Wedges and short game was atrocious. Chunking like I was making a garden. On the worst hole I chunked a 58Β° approach, then chunked three chips in a row… Time to search up some chipping topics and start practicing. I’ll take this over bad long game and good short game. The short game is easier to fix. Shot a net +17(!), gross +23, over 12 holes.
