Yeah, I'd agree w/the folks on the timeline, good weather, people playing, checking out the leaderboard on their smartphones. Maybe their app is too good. If you don't mind the hit to your data plan, you could just play and watch. And the overage charge is a lot less than some pay per view event.

Yeah, this. Had to be some cannibalization going on. The broadcast was being streamed.

ZOMG, this guy. Dude, don't drive behind me. What the hell? You're watching the stream, driving, taking a photo of it, passing a truck, and it's raining.  And posting on social media. Religious figure on a cracker.

The Masters can't tell CBS how many people watched via the app? That would surprise me. Maybe it's just not reflected I the overnights?

In my bag:

IIRC, there were no ads during the stream, but I might not be correct on that. I'm flummoxed as to why they don't have ads on the stream via masters.com/masters app. If they don't, probably not counting that as ratings? ESPN got great streaming numbers.

You can still stream the final round:

http://www.masters.com/en_US/watch/2017-04-09/simulfriday_20170409.html

I give the folks who run the Masters a lot of grief, but gotta give them props for the streams and the app. IBM probably has something to do with it.

Looks like there's something covering the lower back of the ball a bit.

Thanks for providing the link. I did not get to watch the last round until the 15 hole yesterday...I looked for it in youtube but nothing. This is great.

One of the 2 or 3 best Masters I can think of in the 25 years I've been watching the tournament.

Big congrats to Sergio, well deserved.

Agree, great to watch.  Recorded it and watched in the evening - kept me on the edge of the couch the whole round.  I feel good for Sergio.

I didn't see her face. Probably best. Rest looked good.

Yeah, she looked like Bertha Butt! Seriously, I don't know what telecast you guys were looking at!

And you can bet the CBS guys were warned by the Masters Committee that there had better not be a repeat of the "walk to the scorer's room" a la the 2016 US Open!

I have to admit I enjoyed that immensely!

Quite amazing to hear an American crowd chant Sergio's name after he won. Speaking as a Brit, and as a big admirer of Justin Rose, I really wanted Sergio to do it. I suspect most in the UK would say the same. It was fantastic to see him do it, all the more so when he is not the greatest putter (to say the least).

I guess the yellow sticker means the device is sanctioned for use in the hallowed grounds of ANGC?

I was thinking that most people here in the US would not favor him. I watched the very few holes in a large tv at a driving range and I was the only one cheering for him.

The reality is that Sergio has come along way, from a spoiled, stubborn and childish at times lad to a more mature, more understanding and appreciative man..perhaps his new lady, perhaps age, what ever it was I really believe he is a more well rounded person.

The US golf fans that have a notion of how difficult this game is recognize Sergio as a fantastic ball striker. Watching him winning the Masters I believe has trigger sort of an unspoken US fans reconciliation with the Spaniard.  The fans in front of the 18th green were truly happy for him. .The crowd genuinely embraced him, he felt it and appreciated.

I have always being an unconditional Sergio fan and I felt that if he only would connect the dots he could win and he could win many fans back.

As someone in the same position, it's been the same for everyone I've spoken to. Even though they're the same age, I just think Rose will eventually get one given his consistency at Augusta, whereas with Sergio, you worry whether it would have been his last really good chance.

2 days on and still smiling when I think of him sinking that putt.

Maybe this was mentioned during the telecast and I'm not reading any sports pieces, but totally forgot the parallels between Rose and Garcia. Rose had that promising finish in 1998, struggled, lost his card I think, toiled in the minor league (I think), people doubted his decision to turn pro so young but he worked his way back to the Euro Tour then PGA Tour and won his first major 15 years later. So not only do they have the RC in common, but know the burden of front loaded expectations.

What makes/ made you think that about him?

im not being argumentative, I'm genuinely intrigued. In Britain I can probably safely say that he's universally loved, certainly at the Opens and Euro Tour events I've been to. That's in no small part down to his RC exploits- maybe we simply don't see what you guys do.

Im with other posters from the UK on the Rose vs Garcia conundrum as it played out. It seemed incredible that an Englishman was in contention for the Masters, but it was Sergio I was rooting for. I'm so happy for him. I hope I can get to Birkdale this year and cheer on the Masters Champion

    • No, hitting into a hazard that is supposed to be avoided and is designed to be penalizing is not the same as hitting it into the middle of the fairway.   You are penalized because you hit it into a hazard. Based on your logic let's say you hit it into a red staked penalty area and you could normally play it but it's in temporary casual water from rain. Would you expect a free drop from there too??
    • They could have declared it GUR, sure. It is. It's temporary water, and as I said before, an abnormal course condition (ACC). That's what rule 16 is about — ACCs. No, a bunker ≠ the middle of the fairway. You are penalized because you hit it into a bunker. As for the rest… let's stick to the topic. Yep.
    • It's not dumb. It's dumb to randomly allow a free drop that provides an advantage you don't deserve. And your committee had the option of determining it GUR. Did you talk to them?
    • A sand trap is not supposed to have 3 inches of water in it. To me that’s temporary, casual water. Just like if your ball lands in a deep rain puddle in the middle of the fairway. I would have gladly hit out of any spot in that bunker. I understand that it’s a different rule. I just think it’s a dumb rule. You are penalized because it rained.  Here’s what I think is the dumbest rule in golf, and all sports for that matter - professionals playing for millions of dollars in a tournament have to carry around a little pencil and scorecard to keep their score and sign it, when there are big scoreboards all over the course and on tv. Can you imagine the Knicks losing because they didn’t count their score correctly? Like I said, I love the game, but it’s time to move into the 21st century already.
