I didn't practice yesterday (6/3), so I'm already out of it, plus I neglected to post on 6/1 and 6/2.  But I aim to practice most days *and* to get into the habit of trying to practice all days.

Today I went to the range in the late afternoon.  Outdoors, with range balls, on mats.  I spent the majority of my time on pitch shots, 56 through 9iron, focusing on address, posture, and swinging through.  I hit a number of really poor ones in my round on Thursday so this has been on my mind.  A good number hooked or were pulled, which surprised me, but I made solid contact more often than not, so I'm reasonably happy with how it came out.

Today was also the first day I used my future golf room, doing the at-home driver practice exercise for ten reps from LSW.  This doesn't constitute five minutes, but I did want to brag about that too.

June 4th:- 1 1/2 hours at the driving range - unusual for me. Great time figuring out what worked in terms of grip, ball position and stance. Very encouraging.

6/5:

Worked more on lag putting this morning.   Yesterday I noticed that all of my practice was up hill, this morning I worked on the same lag putting exercises but downhill.   It was an eye opener to see the difference.

I also did about 5 minutes of chipping practice.

Slow swings with a sand wedge, trying not to change my peripheral vision. Mostly it was an exercise to get my weight forward.

June 5 - Mirror work at the gym. Focused on the turn from the top, but also paid attention to the club face position at A6. Video showed it to be fairly open there.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
