Yeah, I heard that and tried to quote it. Guess I heard it wrong.

AAAaaaand someone posted a gif of the you know what crash on Twitter already.

Guessing there wasn't enough time for chute to fully deploy and slow down his fall? I know nothing about parachutes. But it looked pretty low from where he jumped off.

And I know nothing of blimps, but it looked decrepit and old.

That was a very tidy opening 65 for Rickie, 11 4s and 7 3s not one 5 on the card. It will be tough to duplicate tomorrow, but he's striping it.

Yeah.  Watched most of it.  His ball striking was solid around the course and got a bunch of 10-15ft birdie putts to drop.  Perfect way to start the tournament for him.

Something about the US Open going to newer courses seems to bring out disasters near the course.
Anyone remember all the coverage of the marina fire during the 3rd round at Chambers Bay?

I'm surprised at the use of the back tee on the 6th. The hole is the hardest on the course at 252 yards. Yeah Rickie hits a long iron to the fringe. The listed yardage on 6 is only 208 yards. So I guess they are using the back tee today.

They're showing more radar numbers than CBS did, don't recall seeing launch angle and spin rate before. Those graphics look retro though. Like 20 years ago retro. Well, I guess if your demographic is old - like me.

Adam Scott just missed a putt of about a foot.  The announcer said it might be the shortest putt he's seen a professional miss.

But it wasn't the shortest putt a professional has missed in a major.  Hale Irwin missed a tap-in in the 1983 British Open.  He missed a playoff by one stroke.

Scott actually missed a putt of about that length at the 2008 US open in Torrey Pines in round 2. He's prone to those. It's unfortunate.

Fox's stream was great this morning, but it's been super choppy since about noon mountain time. Really annoying.

    • this topic brought to mind one my favorite golf-spectator memories. Back when, living in Santa Barbara CA, parked in my yellow cab just behind the 10th tee  (c. 380 yard par 4) at SB Muni golf course while eating lunch. A twosome comes by, and first up is this fat little mexican guy who takes a kinda squirelly practice swing, then addresses the ball and bashes a long, high, perfectly straight drive up to w/in about 5 yards of the green. Other guy is dressed to the 9's, pulls out what looks like a $300 driver....and hits a maybe 150-yard pop fly. Slams clubhead to the ground and yells, "it's fat! It's fat! Everything is fat today!!"  And that's how I learned what a "fat" shot is.
    • day 57. Technique practice in the net. Really trying to slow down.
    • It may not be surprising that in the previous 7,064 posts, this particular point has been discussed. To which I will counter: If we're talking about results, why only the majors? Unless you know something that I don't, neither of us are in any position to judge whether Woods or Nicklaus lived their overall life better, not that such a thing is even objectively measurable, nor is it relevant to the discussion.
    • As we've had to tell other people, the topic is which is the better GOLFER, not human being.
