Not sure I can relate with the action but surely can with the feelings.

I threw a few clubs when I was a teenager (45 years ago), but never enough to damage one much less throw one in the water. Like most here, the club is the least of my problems, getting angry makes things worse, and I'm too cheap to deliberately damage or lose a club... :8)

Yeah I learned my lesson playing high school golf. After I hit a bad drive I took a couple of "mad" swings at the back of the tee box and lost my grip which had my driver end up on a tree about 30' up.
The worst part was that is stayed stuck for about 3 weeks and every round it was pointed out to me. After that I followed the Tommy Bolt guidance "Always throw your clubs ahead of you. That way you don't have to waste energy going back to pick them up."

Players play, tough players win!

What a weenie, I would have tossed each club into the water individually, Tommy Bolt style, get some hang time. :-P

Never heard of Tommy Bolt before.  I google'd him.  He's awesome.

One of the kids I golfed with in high school heaved his 9 iron into a water hazard after he splashed his shot.

A few weeks later he wrapped a five iron around a tree for hitting a shot out of the rough into the drink, too :-D

I threw a club twice as a kid.

Then I saw someone else do it, and they looked so ridiculous, I haven't thrown one since.

I have buried a couple clubheads in the dirt… but more and more, I realize… it's not the club's fault, and golf is just a game.

I'm too cheap to throw or break clubs! I just chastise myself out loud!

As much as I'd love to improve my game, with each year that comes and goes, improving my attitude seems at least as important.

Plus, clubs are just too #$%ing expensive to break or throw away on purpose!

...and  @boogielicious just beat me to the punch.

I've only ever thrown a club for comedic value as I'm laughing over a terrible shot.

If I threw my clubs seriously after every bad shot, I'd eventually throw out my shoulder and be unable to finish the round.

I have a lifelong friend who used to be a golf partner, but his temper when he loses or performs poorly makes play unbearable. We played Strat o matic baseball with a group of 8 for 15 years and he flipped his shit a few times losing. Once he went outside and beat a baseball bat against a tree until he sprained his wrist. Golf, that was equally bad. He threw clubs like an Olympic hammer more times than I can count, twice losing them in either the weeds or once a lake. The worst was him wrapping his driver around the ball washer at the first tee then bitching the entire other 17 holes that my driver is causing him to slice lol. I told him if he broke my club, they'd never find his damn body.

Yeah, I cuss a lot, laugh at myself and penalize myself with a punishment. Back when I was golfing a lot when I had a bad game I'd punish myself by making myself earn the right to use the good clubs and shoot a round with my highschool blades and woods that were absolute unforgiving rubbish. I wish I'd kept those Weiskopf clubs now, and also kept dad's Golden bear set. I am going to buy a set of Bears just for nostalgia. Dad's gone and I'd play those clubs once in awhile just for a boost.

I work too damn hard to be chucking clubs all over creation, too. And i certainly don't want to be the root of stories told ad infinitum about my poor behavior like my old friends Tom and Shawn.

Reminds me of a story from maybe 20 years ago. Odyssey putters has just come out and a few guys were having a big money match at the course where I worked. One of the guys 3-putted the 18th green to lose like $500. He was so pissed he threw his new Odyssey putter in the lake in front of the pro shop. We laughed it off, but we didn't realize the cart kid saw him do it. Like 2 hours later here comes our cart kid with a scuba mask, snorkel, swim fins, the whole works. He swims around in that disgusting pond for 30 minutes before triumphantly popping up, putter in hand. The guy actually heard about the kid retrieving his putter and demanded it back, but our pro told him to get lost.

You gotta be kitten me! What kind of idiot demands their putter back after chucking it in the water? If I were the head pro, I would have told him to eff off, too! Or better yet, I would have told him "go in there and find ANY other putter and I'll make sure my guy trades you for yours. Go ahead."

The kind of idiot that throws it in there in the first place. The pro had to be professional, so he couldn't tell him to eff off, though he sure did want to.

I've smacked a few into the dirt after a bad shot. But, now I sometimes simply let the club drop behind me at the completion of the swing as I watch in dismay and pondering WTF??....

With the driver, when the shot goes about 175 yards or so, puts on it's right turn signal and goes 75+ yards to the right, I give it the shout out...  "THAT BALL IS OUTTA HERE.... SEE YA!!".

One has to watch the local Yankee's broadcasts to get that one. LOL
