Thinking back four days to when I broke 80 for the first time.Β  I had two sixes:Β  par-5 second, hit the fringe in regulation, used a putter to get the ball to a foot, and rushed the putt.Β  Stupid!Β Β

On the par-4 9th, I hit my tee shot left and had a tree between me and the green.Β  I punched forward 100 yards, then hit a wedge onto the green, but 3-putted.

I have had a good number of nines without sixes since this challenge started, and have had rounds where I play the par-5s in even (sometimes just all pars), but no "no sixes" yet.Β  Working on it!Β  I am having fewer sixes and lower scores, and the "no sixes" challenge is something on my mind when planning.Β

I recently went several months/rounds of golf with no 6s. No 7s, or 8s either. Then out of no where, I card two 6s,Β  in 9 holes, on two par 4s.Β

They were not very hard par 4s to my way of thinking.

Ironically I lost the two 6th strokes in my chipping/putting game, which is theΒ strongest part of my game.

Maybe it was fatique, just my time, or maybe just a lack of effort. I don't know. I didn't let them deter me, and my game became better after the second one.Β

So, at this morning's practice, I spent a few extra minutes on my chipping, and putting.Β

Time to start a new run of "no 6s".

No bogeys on the par 5s. Which i feel like Β is the hardest part of this challenge.Β

Really?Β  I find the harder par-4s to be more likely to produce a 6 for me than a par-5.Β  Missing GIRΒ andΒ not being on at least the fringe in regulation on a par-5 for me is a rare event and you're a far better player (and, I assume, driver and ball striker) than I am.

For me its far more likelyΒ im going to make a bogey on a par 5 than a double on a par 4. I guess its relative, but it should be the same for you, too.Β Β After a wild shot on a par 4,Β playingΒ for a bogey is alot easier than trying to save a par i think.Β

I should give this some serious thought.Β  Problem is on the long par-4s, it's more often my second shot that gets me in trouble.Β  And now that I type that out, I should give it more thought when I select a club.

For only the second time, I avoided making anything more than a 5 on Saturday. I had a great up and down on 16 which was looking like it might be a bogey six after getting myself into trouble off the tee.Β Scored really well and tied my all time low which I hadΒ just set the weekend before, 73.Β

Playing my best golf right now.Β

I just conquered this challenge today with a 77.Β I was 2Β under on the par fives, 3 over on the par threes, and 4 over on the par fours. 34 putts (could be a lot better :P ). Eleven GIRs, six GIR+1s, and one GIR+2 (water ball on a par 3). This round could have definitely been under 75. I had two three-putts both from inside 30 feet, and two or three bogeys from good drives.

This challenge has been kicking my butt, there always seems to be at least one 6 popping up on my card, but I'm determined to get it within the next two weeks.Β  A lot of golf scheduled before my wife gets back from visiting her family.

I did this for the first time playing 9 on my course from the back tees. I also shot par for 9 holes for the first time on this course. I hit 7/7 fairways and 7/9 greens.

The closing hole is usually a grueling par 5 into the wind, 600 yards on the scorecard but the tee is often one block up. The wind was directly behind so it played much easier. Missed a 8 footer for birdie to break par!

I typically shoot around 39-41 with at least one six on the card (usually this par 5).

My last round was 16 holes.Β  First hole par 5 unfortunate bogey thanks to a bad third shot when I should have hit the green but came up short.Β  Then the par 5 4th hole where I put it into a hazard and with a penalty managed a bogey 6.Β  Otherwise pretty decent round of 6 pars and 10 bogeys.Β  The hardest part of the no sixes challenge is ensuring no bogey on a par 5

Is it?Β  I feel that makes some sense, but at least at my home course, I have had a few rounds where I parred every par-5 (I have yet to have a round where I played them collectively under par), yet had a few sixes at par-4s.Β  I feel the latter are better defended.Β  Maybe it means I need to reconsider my course management at them.

I think not doubling a par four is a bit more difficult. There are usually 2.5x as many of them too.

I played yesterday and I finally parred both par fives! I did, however, double bogie three of the par fours! Ended up ten over par and missed the "no sixes challenge." Playing again on Friday.

Yep, the par-4s are knocking me out of this. No room for a bad swing, which I WILL have on the 4's. Not so penal on the 5's.

If you were a 10, I'd say that's not true. But a "bad" swing for someone who lists themselves as a "20+", yeah, I'd probably agree.

Have you passed the "no 7s challenge"?
