Golf Sunglasses

Hey everyone, so I’ve been having trouble with tracking the golf ball inflight since I started playing. I’ve tried using the colored balls which help somewhat. (I see an eye doctor and have contacts, correctable to an extent). My question is do certain polarized lenses help more than others? I have a pair of Maui Jim sports that I have had for a while (Brown). Noticed that Oakley advertises some specifically for golf.

 

any thoughts?

I got some of the "As see on TV" glasses that block the glare.  They don't have much tint, but work great.  $15 at Walmart.  They work great in low light, because of the light tint. Love them.

I have a pair of Smith sun glasses (I think they’re called Parallel) that I use for everything sports related (golf, fishing, running, mtn biking, etc.).  They seem to work fine for tracking the ball to me.  I would think most polarized sunglasses would work well (surprised the Maui Jim’s aren’t doing the trick).

the oakley golf lenses are good, but i find the baseball lenses even better. I have both, and I use a white ball and i find the baseball lenses works best. I use to never use sunglasses but once i got a tiny bit of irreversible eye damage from all the years i played golf without sunglasses, i started wearing sunglasses to not further damage my eyes. i use the flak 2.0 with prescription lens. my prescription is very weak, so i alternate between my different lenses, just snap them off and snap them in.

I love my flak 2.0, will probably buy another one in a different colour to match my outfits, lol.

I have these Oakley’s too in prescription lenses. Very good for all light levels too. I use them mountain biking as well.

Thanks for the feedback. For those who notice a difference.... is it a subtle difference or pretty drastic? Like to the point where you may have difficulty tracking shots without the sunglassses?

I have prescription brown polarized sun glass very similar to Maui Jim's.    They are drastically better than my regular glasses when tracking shots on the golf course.

I would say significantly better. The Oakley lenses are not that dark. They provide more contrast and sharpen the shadows so it's easier to track the ball.

Living in one of the sunniest city in the US, I haven't played a round of golf without sunglasses in like 10 years. Makes a huge difference for me. Like a few others have mentioned I use the Oakley golf prism lens. I actually find they work best on hazy days makes it much, much easier to follow the ball.

Another vote for Oakley.  Been very happy with them.  As others have said, the lenses are not too dark and do a good job just lightening things up .  Sometimes, I take them off to read greens if it is early or late in the day and the sun isn't as bright.

Oakley and make sure you can play the whole round with them backwards on your hat!

FWIW I wound up going w/ Oakley Prizm - no regrets whatsoever. I feel like it makes the course easier to see. I even wear them when it's overcast. The Oakley Flak 2.0 is so comfortable I forget I have them on most of the time.

Based on the discussion here I started looking at the Oakley models. For those of us with military/government/responder jobs (including those of us who are veterans), they offer a discount for some of their models (including Flak 2 and Half Jacket 2) with lens options that include Prizm Golf.

It requires a one-time verification to register in the program. I signed up this morning and the verification as a vet took under 5 minutes. (Name, email address, branch of service, year of discharge is all I think I had to provide. Didn’t even need to look up my DD214 for info.) 

Discount for prescription Flak 2 with Prizm Golf lenses drops a couple hundred dollars from msrp—that got my attention—have to see if my local optical shop can come close (often have sales going on). For the non-prescription Prizm Golf glasses, about a 25% discount from msrp.

Thanks for the feedback- anyone know any good alternatives to the Oakleys? Dont really care for the look of them. After doing some research it looks like they are pretty unanimously the best though

Suggest you look up Eagle Eyes on Google. I've worn them for 2 years. They cut out almost all the "blue spectrum" and glare. Personally, I don't want to pay what the Oakleys and other premiums cost. Best regards, -Marv

I registered as I'm a veteran and the discount is 10% which equals $60 on a $600 pr of prescription sunglasses.  Not sure how its hundreds?
