Ok so last time when I did the Break 90 thread, It got a lot of discussion. But people thought he was full of it. He's back but this time it's with a player named Didi shooting a 79. Didi is not long... But knows his distances and such. @iacas may like this one.

I'm just setting this up. Watch the videos, then comment.

That was especially painful to watch because my swing is pretty much just as bad... only I don't keep it play and can't putt.

I don't agree with a lot of his opinions on strategy, but since I won't break 80 in a million years I'll butt out of the conversation.

Thanks for sharing @onthehunt526.

Couple of things jumped out at me.  Didi seemed to keep the ball in front of him, pretty consistent with driver and 3 wood which seemed to be his typical combo for playing most holes (Driver, 3 wood, chip). For those of us who are distance challenged, video seemed to reinforce the need to hit more shots solidly and worry less about distance.

Secondly, his short game seemed mucho strong ( got up/down on 7 of 11 holes). Not sure that is repeatable but maybe so. Clearly it would take more work on my part.

All in all, its a good reminder that the scorecard doesn't have room for pictures and we can all do better maximizing our scoring regardless of our swing eccentricities.

If I had seen that swing before seeing the score, I would have guessed he doesnt hit 80. It did take some good short game to get there.

Im guessing his average score is a tiny bit above 80?

Couldn't watch the second video (or even the last part of the first).

A few things:

  1. No way that dude breaks 80  7 out of 10 times. For one a 7 handicap shouldn't break 80 that often (not that there is any way he is a 7.)
  2. I love how they say he is a deadly putter. I guess they want us to believe he is the best putter of all time, because he would have to be to break 80 with that swing.
  3. Laying up to a good distance is bullshit, the closer you are to the hole the better chance of making a better score unless you are avoiding trouble areas.
  4. I don't care if you use a chipper and have the best short game in the history of golf if you hit 25% of greens like he does you cannot get up and down enough to break 80 consistently.

LOL sounds like someone is triggered. Check out the channel, there is another video of him breaking 80. He plays off an 8 handicap at the moment - hasn't been able to practice as much and still constantly wins stableford competitions.

So much anger in you sir. Would you like to talk about it?

As I mentioned in another thread. It matters little what golfer's swing looks like, as long as the golfer has a good impact position into the ball.

I have a game similar to Didi's. The only difference is I stay in balance in my follow through, and I don't break 80, 70% of the time. It's more like 10%-15% for me.

Like they say, what ever works.

What on Earth made you think NM is angry?

His four points, and I'm elaborating a little bit.  Please tell me which one(s) seem angry or incorrect.

* 7 handicaps don't break 80 consistently... if they did, they wouldn't be 7 handicaps.  I suppose it's possible he plays a CR 70 / SR 99 or something, but without doing the math, I'm not sure an HI 7 would break 80 70% of the time on such a course either.

* I suppose if someone is one of the best putters in the world, they can miss a lot of greens and chip meh and still break 80 consistently.  But they'd have to be a better putter than the top of the PGA Tour, which admittedly isn't where the best putters in the world are likely congregated (if they gather at all).  And, despite missing those greens, they'd best not drop shots elsewhere (no O.B. or lateral hazards, no lost balls, that sort of thing).

* The tip about laying up to a good distance if you can't reach the green fits into the category of things I want my opponents to hear and believe.  It's the best use of those pages from Golf Digest in preparation for a match play round (put said pages into your opponent's locker a week before the match).

* If you hit 5 GIR/round and play those holes in -2 total, you need to get up and down more than 1/3 the rest of the time, assuming you never make anything worse than bogey.  And if one is only hitting 5 GIR/round, I'm betting he or she isn't missing in places where 6/15 up-and-down is a reasonable expectation.  Even if we can bring in Phil Mickelson for those shots.

“Because he would have to be to break 80 with that swing.” THAT statement is why we assume the guy is triggered/angry. Because that statement is a stupid one to make. The entire point of the two videos is to show that it doesn’t matter what anyone’s swing looks like. We all play and enjoy the game differently and that you have no right to judge how another (wo)man plays.

Oh, and the guy even admitted to only watching part of the first video, which leads me to believe that you should watch the videos before spewing bulleted lists of points.

@NM Golf wasn’t angry. You’re both incorrect there.

I’m really surprised that a swing like that can even keep the ball on the course 😂

That’s not even close to an “everyday” swing. 🤪

Wow. That guy looks even more awkward that I usually feel.

Didn't watch the whole thing and it's not the ideal camera angles suggested for a swing video, but it looks like that guy's front foot is off the ground on his down swing.  A couple of them looked like he was ready to fall down. Maybe it's just the angle, but it sort of looks like everything is going wide-right and then he ends up in the middle of the fairway.

Is the point here that he's able to just run the ball down the fairway with a punch/worm-burner type shot and keep it in the fairway?

Like I said, the point is to show that we all have our methods that seem to work and what right do we have to tell someone they are enjoying the game incorrectly? The guy is clearly having a blast and he’s successful (though like I said, success is up to each of our own definitions) so let’s not put him down.

Its aleays great seeing everyone enjoy this great game we love! Isn’t that the whole point? 😊

In the video, he doesn’t seem to enjoy his own swing as much as his results. You can see the wince and look of surprise with every shot 😂.

I know a few golfers with home made swings, and they don’t like their swings at all. They're just too scared to change what seems to work for them and would fix it in a heartbeat if given the chance.

NM Golf’s points about that swing shooting sub-80 scores consistently is spot on.

But like you said, it’s about enjoying the game, as long as people don’t claim that anyone can break 80 swinging inconsistently like that. I think Didi depends a huge amount on his exceptional coordination if he breaks 80 consistently.

Look at Rory's swing, then look at Gentleman Jim's. Now tell me, who has more (if any) competitive sub-60 rounds. Swings are pleasant to look at and defo helps, well, everything, but if comps were won on swing aesthetics, Erik Van Rooyen would surely be around world #1! 😜

I mean unless we literally watch every round he plays, we don't know if he really breaks 80 lol. So I'm going to humor the guy and believe it's true....but I agree that we probably should be skeptical! Take it with a grain of salt at the very least!

I found the golfsidekick videos 2 months back and love this didi character. I wasnt sure about his scoring but with that swing, and the fact he goes out and plays with it really inspired me. I broke 90 for the first time with the tips from the breaking 90 vids...I shot an 86. I was well chuffed with that. Now I want ro break 80 and the videos of the didi character make me believe I can. There is an updated one on the golfsidekicks channel. Really fun to watch and wow if he can break 80 with his swing, if I can learn just touch up my chipping, I can get there too!

Im not very tech savvy so i am not sure if this will come out

Geez that's one ugly swing.Only watched the 6 iron shot but geez he's got a Lot of body twisting.Know a guy that swings sorta like that but he knows where its going.
